If what Dee says is true about how hard it is to get into the newspapers, I’d say it’s less about failure to get into it but more on no current social media artist has the drive to commit to projects that long term to see a potential return on investment in the grand traditional publishing industry.

New newspaper artists are incredibly rare because there’s virtually no opportunity for anyone to make it into the industry in today’s climate unless you’re asked to take over a legacy comic like Nancy or Heart of the City. Comics are either in rerun hell or still going on like blondie and Beetle Bailey. Also all the newspaper artists are boomers or genx who don’t use social media so their interactions with people are through shit like email.

Rosebuds is in a unique position of having a pretty big following online and a creator who is proactive enough to talk to artists who simply do OC stuff, and being the only one in that type of community to have “made it” in his dream profession and being friends with people in that industry.

It feels like everyone's posing is better reflecting their personalities. Rosa's is stiffer because she's an oversized superhuman with no social awareness, Maria is a loose cannon goofball with toonforce, and Maricela's is more normal compared to the two but molds based on who she interacts with since she still comes off as an impressionable little girl despite being very smart.

They're not just vehicles for jokes like most comic strips are, but characters with personalities and desires and we're often seeing things from their point of view.
