Alright, against my better judgement I decided I'm going to give this a fair shake, even if by all accounts this really doesn't deserve it. Five minutes in and I will say, I do like the staging of having the couch literally stretch further apart each time it cuts back to Kiki. It's a genuinely great use of the medium to convey them slowly distancing themselves emotionally. It's the kind of thing that just wouldn't work in live action unless it's strictly a comedy.

Also Kiki is total garbage, if it doesn't end with Sara deciding to not get back with her after learning self-respect this whole film's a wash. That's exactly how it would end if either of these women were a guy.

I think the difference between this and stuff like HGS is that even though the Problematic Ship and the Straight White Maliens are supposed to be absurd characters, they don't feel like they're meant to be punching bags like that one guy who in HGS who was being sexist to Rosemary. Plus, the only character in this movie who could be considered a "girlboss" is kind of a selfish cunt and we're not really meant to sympathize with her.

It reminds me more of Megg, Mogg, and Owl where even if there are a lot of gay characters they're flawed and human.

I do appreciate how Sara didn't actually end up with anyone in the end. Going back to either Kiki or Willow would've muddied up the entire message of self-acceptance. She can always get into a relationship later, but right now she's working on building herself up, and that's a pretty strong point in its own right.

Overall, I'd say that was...decent. Which considering I came into this shit expecting the absolute worst, that's nothing short of a goddamn miracle.

I'm kinda bummed how that this sort of film is damn near impossible to recommend to most people, though. I'm glad I gave this a shot, but it's so aggressive and uncompromising in its identity as a film for the most chronically of online that 99 percent of people wouldn't even give this film a second glance, and almost rightfully so.

Then again it being as such is part of why I respect it. It was willing to be cringe and sincere and vulnerable, something that's a rarity these days. Overall, I didn't regret watching it. I kinda feel like how Problematic Ship felt at the end, funny enough.
