Before all of this Peridot joined the Crystal Gems and SHOULD have joined the main cast but it was Zuke's idea that she should instead be girlfriends with lapis that ruined everything

Are you sharing a headcanon? Do not do the work for Rebecca and her crew. The Diamonds must have something more fantastical to their existence than something so mundane.

White Diamond as far as we know is the progenitor of all other gems including the other diamonds. Given that it implies her being either the only one created by some other source or she arose among a group of earlier gems and is the only remaining member of her generation. If however she is as artificial as the rest of her kind that'd imply she was purpose built for something, perhaps as some kind of self-profilerating weapon.
