Honestly, compared to most protagonists he carries the game the most (fuck Hajime, useless bastard, but he's a Mage of Doom). But he has so much that he struggles with, and his biggest issue was closing cases. The biggest lesson he had to learn was at the beginning of the game, which was to face the outcome of the truth, regardless of how emotionally painful. He can't escape fate or destiny, and by the end of the game, he's in his element and basically becomes destiny by ending it all.

I forgot I read the entirety of Homestuck up to the middle of Act 6 and did voices for my college roommate because she refused to read it on her own without me doing the voices. Half of them I stole from Octopimp because I started running out of unique voices.

That tends to be the issue, Homestuck and SBURB feel like they're be amazing fun in a TTRPG if you could get pesterchum working alongside them for roleplay. Then, the systems are just ass, or are based far too much off of things that were contemporary when Homestuck was running (such as D&D 5e).
Which is a shame, because stuff like Pathfinder, both the original and 2e being used as a chassis could offer customisation and class variety that would make the Homestuck experience more viable in a TTRPG.

Say what you will about Homestuck as a story, particularly its wet fart unsatisfying ending, but I always considered it one of the greatest examples of webcomics as a medium, if not THE best example.
Is there anything else that's such a mashup of differing mediums and styles, with such a unique presentation for even it's regular pages (animated gifs and the chatlog/command prompt underneath, rather than speech or thought bubbles)? There is nothing quite like homestuck, or even really comparable to it, despite still very clearly being a web comic - there are no other web comics like it, even the imitators can't compare.

My point is, how can an animated adaptation ever possibly capture what made Homestuck what it was? Homestuck strikes me as something that can only be digital interactive experience; it could be adapted as a videogame, but any other medium would only remove elements.

I will say that giving the classes and aspects their own set of powers is a good starter, helps set up a basis. But this a STARTER, Not the whole power system.

Sure each kid seemed to be able to only do one thing in the story but those powers were THEIR specifically, not the whole of the class/aspect. And their were pojtns thay shown the power could go wider, since the aspects have multiple layers of meaning to them. Blood didn't just have literal blood, it was family, friends, responsibility, and bindings. But all it focuses on is relationships. It's a good start but it's still to narrow.
All the Light power are based on Luck, and thats it. No knowledge based powers, no Literal light powers, no relevancy or perception based powers just Luck.

I whay would of done is give each aspect 4 keywords(their literal names and 3 others) and each class their line that we all know + a "tool" (that's their method of use) and say that ypu can create a power for yourself if it fits both the class line and an aspect keyword.
It works for Mage: The Ascension, it could work here.

The fact that the glossary description of Light doesn't mention "fortune", when that's the dual-meaning word that explains both halves of the Light we see in the comics, tells me they fucked up. Doom also doesn't mention fate when I think that was a big part of Doom.
Create-a-power would work, yeah, but that'd take a real robust system. Harder to do than just throwing a sheet of "here's what this classpect does" at people. Make that how Fraymotifs work, maybe?
Best way I've seen hero powers handled was via FATE, where your aspect is a skill that can be rolled to do anything involving the aspect, and your class is an aspect (ironically) that affects how good you are at doing whatever with it. For instance, Princes get bonuses to destroying/destroying with, but penalties when trying to use it for more creative ends.

Vriska did plenty wrong, but she also did have a chance at a genuine redemption.

In Mage The Ascension "Mages" can control 9 major parts reality. They do magic by choosing an aspect and saying how they want to after it. Kf they can convince reality (aka the Story Teller) that they should be able to do it then they can. They still need to make some rolls as a skill check but they can do it. They want to read a guy's mind; 2 dots of Mind should do the trick. They want to read the minds of people in a given area? Mind+Space.
There's also tools a "Mage" uses to help with the magical process. Sure you cna use a full 5 dots of Space to open a portal, but if you write down on a wall a complex magic circle made of weird paint then it'll be less effort to do. It's creativity and ingenuity, figuring out how you need it to be done and how to get it done.

Here's a HS example of what I'm meaning.
A Mage and a Prince are in a room , both a Space player and they need to mess with gravity. A Mage would pull out his Mage-Tool and do something complex to alter gravity to his whim. A Prince would go to the middle of the room, punch the floor and "destroy" the gravity of the place for a while. To add a bit more a Bard of Space would problem March around the around the room for a while, with gravity gradually getting lessened as it's getting destroyed as well. Each character gets similar thing done but does it through different method. The Mage intellectually controls it, with the Bard/Prince gets rid of it.
The Bard get rid of though his specific Presence; the Prince gets rid of it through his specific Action.
Each a different means, each a different method.

Yes. I like to think of how they interact plenty. Jade as a girl who acts silly, but is actually serious. Rose is a girl who acts serious, but is quite happy to be silly. They work quite well together, though I recognize the dynamic is just mirroring JohnRose in many ways, I simply prefer Jade to John. I don't feel like there needs to be much more reasoning to enjoying a ship, the fact that they rarely spoke in the comic is merely a failure of Hussie's handling of Jade, not the characters themselves.
