back when it came out, in the biggest drought of Darkstalkers anything, I did like it. But looking back, man does it feel like from that era. I did enjoy the first SF vs they did but it was with the SFV cast which was not that much of a good crossover moment. I'm glad they're doing another one now because Darkstalkers is so 90s that the current version of SF with 6 feels like trying to bring back the flavor of Third Strike

I'm not saying that Akuma is a good guy by any means. Being an antagonist and being evil are not the same thing. One thing that does set him apart from Bison etc is that he's honorable. The reason I think Oni exists is precisely for the devs to have their cake and eat it too. They have a completely separate character they can point to whenever Akuma goes in to the deep end. Akuma's whole schtick is that he was able to keep the Satsui no Hado under control to proof his superior mastery and power.
I like to think he taunts Ryu to put him to the test and see if he too can conquer that bloodlust. But didn't count on Ryu figuring another way out with the Power of Nothingness.
Akuma is not clearly defined by Capcom because they want to keep everyone else exactly the same form their SF2 personality. He was even planned in SFV or 6 to be like a Lone Wolf and Cub situation with a child strapped on his back, showing that the character is more than just frowny martial arts guy with purple fireballs.
I know Udon has to keep a certain level of consistency because they work under the biggest licence for Capcom next to Resident Evil. I'm just saying that if they want to be taken seriously as more than artbook company, then make some damn good stories. Even more so if the pr guy keeps harping on "member when comics were gud" type of shit
