Nah, Finn did get the short hand of the stick a lot of the time but the real problem was the show became more about boring drama than adventuring. If Finn and Jake were still kicking ass by the end of the show it would've been fine even if Finn was an incel but what we got is some side characters nobody cares about defeating the final boss by talking and singing... literally Steven Universe crap. Oh and also forced lesbian shit despite PB and Marceline having zero chemistry.

I think, for better and for worse, the show got a bit up its own ass. They saw the positive reaction to episodes like I Remember You (a genuinely great episode) then tried to make more deep heavy hitting episodes or artsy episodes. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. But the overall effect was moving away from the simple fun adventures vibe of the early seasons.

It's not hard for me to believe that, it's just not what the scene depicts. It wouldn't make sense narratively. The point is that Finn has fallen so far that he would make out with LSP just to feel something. The scene doesn't work if you assume Finn has no agency. There is some grey area regarding consent due to Finn's mental state being shit, but calling it molestation or rape is too far imo

It's called a fucking character arc and by the later seasons Finn had grown into somebody even greater than he was at the start of the show, with more and closer friends. To these fucktards the "later" seasons are season 4 and 5. There 10 seasons in this show.

Bro at the start of the series Finn is a hero beloved by all, in the middle of it he's a raging sperg with no friend except Jake given the cold shoulders by most characters and by the end of it he's a background character who does nothing but mop about his traumas and apparently that's "growing up". Sure the end is an improvement compared to the middle but it's less like "character had an arc" and more "series got awful in the middle and got a bit better by the end but the characters were already too fucked and they wanted to keep their lesbian drama going".

It's heavily implied, they're always hanging out together when, again, they have ZERO chemistry and are given a backstory where they always knew eachothers or whatever. One is a sociopathic tyranical leader and the other is a carefree irresponsible trickster, they should hate eachothers.

And yes I did watch the series and it does get better in the later seasons but the ending is just unsatisfying shit centered around boring characters no one cares about. The best I can say about it is they at least didn't further ruin anything major.

The problem with Adventure Time in its later seasons is that it wanted to be more psychological and introspective like the anime the production crew were fans of despite the fact that most introspective/psychological anime make a point of introducing themselves as introspective and psychological.

It's like if Kamen Rider started acting like Shin Kamen Rider halfway through the original series. Nobody likes a sudden tonal/atmospheric shift that doesn't fit the initial premise. If you want things to be more adult, just end the story and start with a reboot that is adult from go rather than tarnish what is meant for kids.

I honestly never liked Bubbline because they have little in common and their temperaments aren't compatible. Marceline is libertarian, Bubblegum is authoritarian. One is punk rock, the other is The Man. Real life relationships and fictional ones always work best when both characters have overlapping qualities.

I gave up on the show around season 5, but a friend wanted me to watch the movies with her recently. The PB/marcy one felt like it was written by aliens who have no idea how human beings behave in relationships. It was almost unsettling.

I get that the crew also wanted the show to grow up with their audience but it's almost never done well. I like Mega Man but if it turned into Mega Man X/Zero halfway through the original series I'd stop playing. I like Pluto because it's an adult take on Astro Boy but that doesn't mean I want Astro Boy to turn into Blade Runner while I'm still reading the original.

When it comes to "growing up with the audience", there's also a reluctance to mirror what growing up is actually like as a teenager. I don't really like Finn in later Adventure Time because he acts more like a self-reflective lost man in his 20s instead of how an actual teenager would act. Real teens are childish/immature morons.
