Spongebob SquarePants
Season 15 was the best season ever. Do you guys think Season 16 will be good too?

I remember stumbling on a fanfiction on fanfiction.net, way back in middle school, where SpongeBob was in knee-high water which allowed him and Sandy to smooch...

I don't know what changed to cause people to overrate these new episodes but they're still middling and not all that different to what we had the past 4 years. Is it because they nostalgia bait harder? It's probably that.

After season 3 is when the first movie came out, which also coincides with the original creator leaving. He wanted the show to end with the movie but it was too much of a cash cow for Nickelodeon to let it end.

A lot of the fanbase consider "after the movie" to be when the series turned bad similar to how fans of the Simpsons consider ~season 10 or earlier to be when "the Simpsons became bad".

Hillenberg did return for a bit years later for a little but he eventually died in 2018. Now that he's dead Nickelodeon has gone full into trying to milk the franchise with multiple spin-offs and increased rates of movies (which is not what Hillenberg wanted).

I think this is a bigger case of standards having been lowered than SpongeBob actually having gone back to its pre-movie quality.

Better than seasons 13-14, probably one of the best post-movie seasons, but "best season ever"? Get real. I love the expressive Ren & Stimpy-inspired animation of the modern seasons, itโ€™s arguably the best looking cartoon currently on TV, I especially loved "A Fish Called Sandy" with how it manages to look like a season one episode, but the showโ€™s pretty style over substance these days. The best post movie season IMO was season 11, great animation and great writing, tons of great episodes like ChefBob and Krabby Patty Creature Feature, makes sense since Hillenburg worked on the show around that time before his passing, but the writing gradually worsened ever since he kicked the bucket.

Honestly these talented Spumco-derived artists deserve to work on something else besides NuBob, but no other tv show allows that kind of style to flourish these days cause companies would rather cheap out on beanmouth shit, the only reason NuBob has this style is cause one: the show has a higher budget from how successful it is and two: the show is too big to fail, of course theyโ€™ll take risks with it, itโ€™ll still be running either way.

everything you said is pretty much a lie or taken out of context, and I hate reading this shit every time a spongebob thread pops up because you faggots feel like you HAVE to suck somebody's cock all the time. Steven Hillenburg was a faggot.
>He wanted the show to end with the movie
He never did. He never said anything like that. He once said something along the lines of "The Spongebob Movie could be considered a good finale for the show" but he never implied that that's where the show should've stopped.
>Hillenberg did return for a bit years later
he didn't. He never returned. He sort of somewhat worked on "something" for one of the shitty movies that came later, if you really want to count that for some reason.
>Nickelodeon has gone full into trying to milk the franchise with multiple spin-offs and increased rates of movies (which is not what Hillenberg wanted)
He never said what he wanted. He didn't give a fuck about Spongebob and never did, it was just as much of a cashcow to him as it was for Nick, that's why he left so early and pretty much told them "just do whatever the fuck you want with it". This spin-off bullshit comes from that one interview when he said that he didn't want to work on "spongebob babies" as a funny joke, mostly to comment on the state of american cartoons at the time than anything he actually cared about. And thats. It. Maybe HE didn't want to work on anything else Spongebob (ie. because he didn't care that much about it), but he was never against anybody else doing it, hence why he never commented on it after Nick did it and he actually helped on one of the later movies. You happy, retard? Never post this shit again

He literally returned as an executive producer for season 9. I'm not even going to bother addressing the rest of your post, this alone shows that you're full of shit.

Why do the newer seasons look like they don't even take place underwater?
Anonymous No.149868080 >>149868146 >>149868419

A Fish Called Sandy had a whole underwater aesthetic going on since it was made to look like a season one episode, makes me wish theyโ€™ll do more new episodes with that style.

Honestly IMO the "SpongeBob doesnโ€™t feel like itโ€™s underwater anymore" problem was at its worse during the Tibbitt Era, the new episodes at least have plenty of unique background character designs based on a variety of different sea creatures, unlike the Tibbitt era where most one-off/minor characters were generic fish.
Anonymous No.149868146
>>149867974
>>149868080
For me it was the fact that the fish stopped having fins and just had regular hands. In old Spongebob they'd sometimes have their fins morph into hands for certain gag gestures, but otherwise they were just fins.

TibbittBob had its occasional unique minor character designs, but all in all the shows art direction sucked ass and was its worse during that era, seasons 1-4 had a certain charm with their animation, storyboard artists like Aaron Springer and C.H Greenblat had unique artstyles where you can just tell when they storyboarded a scene, that charm was completely sucked out during the Tibbitt Era as characters strictly stuck to their model sheets. Honestly as much as people hate on the "gore" from that era, Robertryan Coryโ€™s kickass art was one of the few artistic highlights of it.

The show not even bothering to realistically seem like it's underwater has been a running gag since the early seasons when they'd have stuff like fire all the time.
