Funny enough, something off-topic from /v/ kinda did what I mentioned. In the lore for Destiny and Destiny 2 (especially post-Lightfall and during the Echoes episode last year), Maya Sundaresh and Chioma Esi were mentioned as a married, lesbian couple many, MANY times to a point where Bungie practically bludgeoned players over the head with that marriage (we got it the first time, already).
Despite the clumsy way Bungie handled Maya and Chioma's relationship, that didn't stop them from having Maya undergo a sadistic personality change that not only made Chioma questioned her motives and sanity, but also led Maya to becoming a villain named The Conductor willing to destroy everything to achieve her goals. Coincidentally, some copy of Maya named Lakshmi-2 (a Future War Cult faction rep) led a radicalized attack before her downfall.
A somewhat similar thing was done with Eramis in Destiny 2' Beyond Light expansion. Eramis used her newfound powers of Darkness (in the fom of Ice-based powers called Stasis) to not only endanger her Eliksni race, but the entire system as well.
Not quite the best examples of interesting lesbian couples what I brought up earlier, but it's better than the standard safe /co/ lesbian couple trope.
