The director was pretty clear he wanted Reed to be useless powers wise. Like specifically wanted him to be limited.

I remember when the first trailer dropped and the only one to not show his powers was Reed. They also had to make his uniform different from the others to help with the CGI. So my guess is making stretchy powers in live action was too hard for them so they nerfed his ass
