He's right. It's been four decades since Watchmen and comics have failed to mature, to learn the lessons of his comics. The fact that most comics are still about "heroes" and "villains" shows how small-minded and unserious comic book readers and creators are. Real life doesn't have heroes and villains. Part of the reason Watchmen is so compelling is that it exchanges the hero/villain paradigm for an ensemble of characters with competing ideologies, no one of which is held up as correct. Watchmen is an example of the kind of comic book that the industry could have striven to emulate instead of the boring schoolyard battles that now dominate the medium.
