There was a 4chan creepypasta spread around here for years. Can't find it but the basic idea was some guy was influencing Seth McFarlane into putting more and more gruesome violent content into Family Guy.

Lots of people believed it too because the show was weirdly getting more and more violent.

This. It was based around the idea that Seth took on an advisor to encourage him to do more and more grusome stuff which in turn made Seth more happy about his work.
