I've seen way too much inorganic praising of this movie.
So tell me about its flaws.

>best Transformers movie ever
>poorly marketed

i think most of its praise is well warranted, its a tightly written film about 2 friends falling out.

some people would say B-127 is the weak link, personally i liked him but thats cause i've suffered through mute Bumblebee too long and honestly i'd still say he's more likeable than the Animated version.

People are just that desperate for decent TF fiction

The first half isn't bad, but it's clearly the weaker half. It does have those generic "family film tropes" littered all throughout before the Sentinel Prime twist reveal.

Does character design count as a flaw? There are much worse cases, and a lot of it is because they are pre-Earth vehicles.

I actually liked B-127, but outside comic relief, he didn't serve much purpose in the actual story, wish they could've given him something to do.

Sentinel Prime didn't have a sick ass villain song.

I'm just sick of celebrity voice actors, but i did like Bryan Tyree Henry as Megatron and Chris Hemsworth as Orion Pax, not as Optimus Prime though.

D-16's turn really does only start making sense upon re-watching the film and paying more attention to his behavior earlier on, I do not blame a single person who thought his crashout felt too sudden, cause while noticing those little things with each revisit is cool and rewarding, it also admittedly kinda makes the twist fall flat for those that only tend to watch movies like these once.
Also it makes no sense for him to beat a more experienced Starscream

Have you considered that something can just be... good? And that people enjoy it?
It does have a minor pacing issue, but that's it.

my biggest problems with the movie feel like they were mandated by the studio. bumblebee and elita-one really didn't feel like they needed to be there and were only included out of obligation. bumblebee's popular and he serves as kid appeal, elita-one is the designated chick of the team

i also feel like soundwave and shockwave didn't really need to be in the movie. i love them, but i dislike the idea of megatron getting his three elites so fast. starscream can stay and i'm alright with megatron getting the seekers early on, but soundwave and shockwave feel like overkill. i get it, they're fan favorites and help get more people to watch the movie, but story-wise i think they really shouldn't have been included. they don't even make much sense to be "elite warriors". soundwave's a communications expert and a spy, and shockwave's a scientist.

imo, they should've been saved for a sequel. which, again i get it - they were included to garner enough money FOR a sequel. but ideally, they would've been saved up and megatron wouldn't have gotten his top members so fast after his turn. at most, i could see them as cameos. maybe a small scene with soundwave being in the broadcasting room, have him be the man in charge that helps broadcast sentinel's video. shockwave, at most, could've been mentioned like ratchet earlier in the movie. something about a brilliant scientist that sentinel needs to talk to, but it's only briefly brought up.

basically, my biggest problems were just the characters and rushing too much into it, which i mostly chalk up to studio influence

alternatively, however, i think a lot of these problems could be solved if soundwave replaced bumblebee's role in the movie.

the way i see it, soundwave should've been part of the core four and bumblebee should've had a supporting role, more akin to someone like jazz or ironhide. soundwave can easily slot into bumblebee's role - sorta.

bumblebee's introduced as a hyperactive guy who's been locked in a shitty job and hasn't talked to anyone in ages, so he copes by talking to made-up guys. soundwave can take that spot. instead, soundwave's the guy who's locked down in that shitty place as punishment for...something. maybe it has to do with him being a spy and finding something he shouldn't have. instead of talking to made up guys, he obviously hangs out with his cassettes. and, obviously, unlike bumblebee he's the total opposite - silent, doesn't talk much and isn't hyperactive.

one of the main complaints of the movie is bumblebee's humor, so we get rid of that by having soundwave take his place. you can still have a bunch of jokes surrounding soundwave's autism instead. and if we REALLY need a character like bumblebee, one of his cassettes can just be the annoying one

also, soundwave's always been insanely loyal to megatron. this could help explain that. maybe it's soundwave that gets megatron to really think twice about trusting sentinel, cuz why else would soundwave be in there? maybe his autism is similar to an empurita thing where he was lobotomized to act like that. megatron ends up befriending soundwave and sympathizing with the guy. when the teams form, soundwave obviously joins megatron, and their time together explains why he's so loyal to him.

risky as it would've been to have a transformers movie without bumblebee in the main cast, i think this would've been a good fix for a lot of the movie's problems

Bee is annoying, I was supremely disappointed he didn't lose his voice by the end of the movie

Megatron going from wanting to kill Sentinel to wanting to burn down the entire city was dumb. It would have made more sense if after killing Sentinel he was going to execute a low-level transformer that didn't actually know what was going on and Optimus stops him.

>spoiler
I thought the implication was that getting the a prime cog made the main 4 stronger than everyone except Sentinel, with Megatron getting a 2nd upgrade by taking Sentinel's core and Optimus getting a 2nd upgrade with the Matrix of Leadership

I liked it but
>I don't particularly like their designs before they get their cogs
>Bumblebee is annoying KMK sucks
>Megatron's voice actor isn't a particularly good fit
>Elita is a bit too girlboss-y
>most of the good stuff is in the climax
It's still a hell of a lot better than Bayslop

Elita is extremely annoying.
The colors are overstimulating, the whole movie is coated in rainbows.
