The book was fine bordering on outright good for the entire first arc before it went back to Romita shittery. Peter gets a job, gets fucked up by a villain but still manages to outclass everyone despite being drugged out of his mind, and the art got to look nice. Pete was pushed and was on the ropes for a little bit but he also wasn't chained up in a basement getting wailed on by a shitty mobster like Tombstone.
