I still believe Dragonslayer was intended in the beginning. Everybody know Monty was a huge FFfag and he based Jaune on Cloud. If Pyrrah was his Aerith, it makes sense Yang was his Tifa. Both Yang and Tifa are titty monsters that resolve problems with their fists. And Yang liked to flirt with Jaune during the early volumes.

Everyone talks about Monty's "Vision" but I think if he had lived he would still be coming up with another ridiculous OP plot twist power up every week that the writers would have to twist the story to accommodate. Not that that would necessarily be bad mind you...

RWBY is so weird when you think about it because even though people point to it pulling from ATLA, it's really Monty's FF7 and FF8 AU fanfiction that he made into his own cartoon. Seriously, almost everything about RWBY comes from Square Enix games first. If you had to list the amount of influences in terms of importance, it would go something like this:

>Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts
>Fairy tales, folklore, myth, and alchemy
>various shonen anime (particularly Bleach, Soul Eater, Cowboy Bebop, and several anime by Trigger)
>ATLA and TLOK
>Star Wars and Harry Potter

What's particularly noteworthy is how much of Twin Peaks is in RWBY because of how much 90s RPGs and 2000s anime pulled from Twin Peaks. I won't elaborate on the parallels, but if you've watched Twin Peaks, you can already tell how the creative DNA shows up in RWBY and in what characters specifically.

Blake's design would be improved with a darker skin tone. It'd at least break up the team's complexion ratio. GOD they're all so pale. Ruby had an albedo ratio equivalent to that of the goddamned arctic, she was GLOWING.

I like Yuffie too. Blake fucking sucks because she's the only real character with an arc in V1-3 and that's only because of Monty's weaboo catgirl fixation and Miles dating Arryn at the time. It's not really a coincidence that Adam got written like he came out of a bad fanfiction considering Arryn went on to date an actor after dumping Miles and the new boyfriend apparently beat her up.

In a different world, Blake's character would either be treated with the gravitas and dramatic required, or she wouldn't be an ex-terrorist and more like a drifter/wayward rich kid (so straight up Yuffie).

I still think Salem was originally going to be an alien like Jenova, but was meant to be tied to the Moon considering how often the moon is prevalent in shonen anime or RPGs as an area of importance (Princess Kaguya). It's also a big deal in FF8, the Lunar Cry and all that jazz.

My guess is that Grimm were supposed to be a "normal" part of the life cycle akin to Hollows from Bleach but Salem fucked everything up.
