Didn't even know this existed. I thought it was great. Just needs better animation and less stale looking characters. Don't know why people hate it

What was your favorite episode?

It was kind of overhyped as the second coming of B:TAS, but it wasn't bad. The Clayface and Firebug episodes were the best ones.

it was fine, I think people just overhyped it and then there's your usual "woke reeeee" fake outrage

The Harley Quinn episode. Probably my favorite interpretation of her and the scariest looking villain in the series

All the swaps are at odds with the setting aesthetic

I don't think it's hated as much as it is disappointing. I like the Clayface episode quite a bit. I think this take on Batman is pretty lame though, he acts like All Star Batman and Robin Batman while also not being nearly threatening or capable enough to earn the right to be a ridiculous brooding edgelord.

I understand he might not be treated as the "main character" a lot of the time which is why he gets less development but I'm also never excited to see him and I never think anything he does is cool. They also jumped way too hard into the hard supernatural aspect of the settings with the very early Gentleman Ghost episode that undermines the removal of rationalization for fantastical elements later such as Clayface's "supernatural" but somewhat more grounded abilities. It's just an odd choice

Because it was fucking terrible. Worst Batman cartoon. Makes Beware the Batman look like fine art.

and most of all, Batman turned into a sensitive, awkward, useless male who needs a girlboss just to save him

They didn’t push it far enough in any direction to be interesting. Batman didn’t do anything particularly dark. He didn’t have any neat BaTB gadgets or plots. The villains were just realistic enough to lack personality, but not enough for them to be plausible or interesting. His supporting cast weren’t developed enough to be interesting, but were annoyingly overpresent.

female Penguin was weird and dumb.
i don't get if it's supposed to be set in the actual 30's /40's or a modern world that use 30's aestetics like in Btas.
i find the race and gender equality and gay acceptance really dumb and lazy if its set in the actual past.
they could do much more interesting stories if the world had 1940's values instead of modern progressive values.
and i'm saying this as someone thats pretty liberal.

J.J. Abrams being involved made me avoid it entirely after what he did to Star Wars and Star Trek.

Bruce Timm saying; "Batman doesn't have any female villains" to justify female Penguin also put me off as that's blatantly false corporate speak, plus I didn't want to see him fucking Barbara again given Timm is on record saying it's his fetish "BECAUSE it's SO WRONG."

So I didn't feel like I'd enjoy it especially with abysmal dogshit like Gotham Knight and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League releasing around the same time that also did Batman dirty.

If you are looking for real reasons from me, OP.

It's a bit too dry most of the time, and some of its takes on popular characters are boring or strange. However, it has its moments. I liked the Clayface, Firefly, Nocturna, and Two-Face episodes. On the other hand, I feel like the team behind the show isn't comfortable writing "villain of the week" episodes that also advance the main plot.

I also dislike the "Gentleman Ghost" episode. It was weird in a bad way. In just a few minutes, it went from being a regular noir show to a bombastic paranormal flick.

the show perfectly sums up why trump won
>every thing is changed to make white men seem weak and stupid and women strong and powerful
only people who like it are weird lefty freaks who call everyone a nazi and never in a billion years would stand up for biggotry, racism or sexism aimed at white men.

It came out and most people forgot about it due to how flawed it was when it's trying to ape the batman animated series. It's trying to be The Batman but without much of what made The Batman good. Nocturna is the best part.

Reeves batman has a good chunk of the strength for him come from the SFW and the actor's body language when fighting. You see and feel like bones are being broken. That sense of fear from criminals and punishment from batman doesn't exist, and Reeves batman is dependant on the combat to showcase the intimidation. This leaves crusader batman to be more of a detective where it's clear there is an element missing from batman.

The terrible animation is enough of a reason to give it a skip. 2D animation is dead.

Well, then use that big old brain of yours and fucking make one!!!
Gah, I fucking hate these guys, especially Timm. He's fine as an artist, but his opinions on literally anything sucks ass. He's not a reliable person to handle Batman, good writers and directors are the reason BTAS was good, his credit in the Batman animated legacy lies on the visual direction and character design alone, and he barely ever draws anymore. I don't know why people still trust him with the character.

Make what? Batman has plenty of female villains. One of them's his baby mama.

Clayface and Nocturna episodes, the last scene of the first person view point of seeing Harvey getting acid in his face, jesus that was good.

the show has the potential to be amazing but its kinda lacklustre in most areas.

I liked the Clayface episode. Otherwise it's just pretty bland and uninspired. Content. You'd finish BTAS and be like, damn, I just watched a 22 minute movie. With memorable images, evocative mise-en-scene, pathos that sticks with you. Here it was just kind of a whittled down approximation. Gone from my memory minutes later.

Clayface episode stood out I think because it felt like an actual detective story. I think they should have stuck with that level of diminished-but-present fantastical elements and that general tone for the entire show. It might've turned out pretty good. Instead the tone is completely all over the place.
