Dexter's Lab and Samurai Jack were created almost 30-25 years ago. Dude hasn't had a successful hit since. Sure those two cartoons are the best cartoons ever made, but he was not the sole reason they were great.

I think the guy is being hard carried by clone wars legacy and HT, he was decent when collaborating with other creatives that had a vision he could polish but over time it became obvious that he can't write an ending to a shopping list nor write for characters in the long term without someone reigning him in.

It's a shame to see him fall from grace but he just thinks of a set piece and how to get there, not about if it makes sense for the characters to reach it or if the audience is satisfied beyond it being cinematic yet often times hollow.

I suspect that's the core of the issue. He was a younger man when he came up with the film, but his older, greyer, fatter, and likely no longer has that same sense of humour, but continued to pursue the project anyway because of his young-self's passion for it.

Not sure why everyone thinks that if his projects end on a shitty note, that means the entirety of the project was shit too.
I think endings are as important as the next pretentious hack, but I can enjoy the rest for what it is, which in all of genndy's work so far, has been pretty good.

You would have to assume that he always intended the more raunchy grotesque humour though. To just throw out the igniting spark for the plot, and allowing it to completely change the tone and dynamic you were going for, would mean he didn't care much for the pitch to begin with.
So I say he always wanted the dog fucker movie to be made, we just got a larger focus on dog balls as a result of that pitch meeting.

Regardless within the context of the dog story it was far from purely about race mixing - also a commentary on class and what's essentially dog eugenics, inbreeding to maintain "purity" etc. That shit can exist among people of the same race too.
