That's about my viewpoint, but it's also why I think Primal becoming an anthology is for the best. He does his best work with simple, episodic stories like the first season, but struggles tying long-form stories together.
Season 3 onwards can just have like each episode be a new set of characters, with the occasional 2 or 3 parter, and I think that's going to be ideal. Tie them all together with the show's theme of "Survival". This would also free them up to make cool, pulpy scenarios you might not have gotten with just Spear and Fang.
>A small band of knights defend a castle from being sieged by a massive army
>A group of Romans get picked off by Picts, slowly losing their organized tactics as their numbers dwindle
>A barbarian gets captured and forced to fight in the Colosseum
>A British explorer awakens a mummy curse, getting lost in a labyrinthian tomb
>A private detective investigates a cult, only to discover cosmic terrors from beyond reality
>An African champion hunter gets in over his head as he chases down a massive lion
>A lone samurai survives a massive battle, only to discover the bloodshed has attracted evil yokai
>Last ep of the season, Fang teaches her dino-babies how to hunt and they get into shenanigans
