One of the themes of the show was about rejecting the future that other people choose for you, and embracing your own paths.

The frogs, toads, and newts were all told they had to be farmers, soldiers, or politicians, and most of the characters we meet try to reject those rolls somewhat. Andrias was forced to be a warmongering by his dad/the Core, and it led to suffering.

Marcy was supposed to be a super-genius, and Sasha a billionaire businesswoman, and they came to reject them, because those jobs wouldn't make them happy. As for Anne, her arc comes from not KNOWING what she wants, and we see in the end that she picked something the audience never suspected, signifying that she the freedom to choose.
