the reason for the target being doubled is to account for the marketing
since the usual estimate is that a movie will spend equal to its budget on marketing

so it has already exceeded both its budget and its marketing budget, and it still in theatres

DC execs certainly do not see it as a flop, instead seeing it as a successful relaunch of superhero movies rather than their end
it has already exceeded the 2x budget target, a target which itself is of dubious accuracy because the marketing budget also goes towards sales of merchandise, and so you cant add the marketing on top of the budget without also accepting that you would have to add ancillary sales as well
and we just do not know the current state of superman merch, there is no publicly available list of all the superman slurpee cups that every movie theatre has sold

Superman sold, so far, almost 30 million tickets in America. Only two movies sold more so far this year. The biggest and most popular show on HBO Max is consider a huge hit with 3.5-4M eyeballs for ratings with 5M for it's just broadcast finale.
Peacemaker never made those numbers when it aired on HBO Max - Gunn has admitted he's more attached to PM than anything else and clearly wants to ging up the numbers for PM. I'm sure he hopes to eek out as many seasons as possible of PM as he can but there's only so much he can manage if the actual results (ratings) don't match.
The Penguin barely managed to be the 11th most popular show on HBO Max the year it broadcast.

WB and HBO didn't bother releasing hard numbers for PM Season 1, other than saying things like "each episode increased viewership" from the previous episode and then boasting that the finale "increased viewership by 44%" over other HBO MAX ORIGINALS - at that time, there were few HBO Max originals and they certainly didn't compare it to HBO only hits, like Game of Thrones.

tl;dr Gunn wants to protect his baby

I'm not coping as I thought the movie was just aight and have no stake in this but is breaking even not kind of ok for starting off your franchise, surely they should have spent far more on marketing even post release as this movie is basically a big ad for future movies that could make a billion. Might as well keep crapping out franchise starters if the future profits could be a fucking billion, it's basically free money.
What is more important is just getting ticket sales for an audience and getting said audience invested for the future. You also need Superman to get butts into seats and generate buzz online as you have to sell a fucking supergirl movie afterwards which is a tougher sell

the entire point of measuring success by twice the budget is to account for the marketing budget in the first place
but with an estimated 200M marketing cost in addition to a 225M budget, then the rule of thumb is actually a bit below 2x, since it cost less to market than it did to budget

the 2x goal was also only accurate pre-covid to movies that had little to no merch anyways
tangled made about as much money on a bigger budget but was seen as a big success
because the marketing budget also marketed the merch
which is also the case for superman, that marketing cost also markets slurpee cups and toys

That is chump change for a 225 million + movie, anon.

No, you just don't understand movie financing. It's fine, I'm here to educate you. Martketing costs are essential for blockbusters, and movie theaters take roughly 50% of a movie's gross over it's run.

So? Man of steel made more back when Superhero movies were at an all time high, riding on the wave of Nolans trilogy and the hype of Avengers, when people went to the cinema more, and when tickets were cheaper so the cinema was more appealing.

Superman 2025 has no excuse for not making more.

The Snyderverse can't come back because it never existed since it's officially dead forever.

Tom is part of the production company and essentially owns at least a piece of the movie, it's in his contract.

You've posted this shit multiple times in numerous threads and already been Butt Fucked up the ass too many times by way too many strangers on the internet to mention.

But I'll repeat once more time, for the 5 year old imbecile you obviously are:
Studios and production companies LIE to make as much money as possible.
They lie to people like RDJ and Kirkman (as well as the other TWD partners) who are profit participants, and claim through accounting tricks that there are no profits.
The lie to the unions to pay as minimal benefits to the teamsters, stuntmen and crew. They lie to their CGI tech guys who aren't in unions and overwork them. They lie to the actors unions so they give minimal health benefit contributions and residuals.
They lie to states and countries that give them tax credit income dollars because those tax credits are based on the amount of money spent in that jurisdiction and the total overall budget of the film (since the tax credit income cash is a percentage of the overall budget, not necessarily a percentage of the money spent in Ohio, as would be the case here).
So of course some accounting dweeb at WB fudged numbers turned into fucking OHIO.

Jeez Louise, son, take the fucking loss.
It's one thing to be stupid in public.
It's totally another thing to repeat it each and every day.

She's not. The alt universe version of her with big tits is more relevant.

>God, fucking damn you i can already see your faggot ass spamming "GIRLBOSS!" when that movie releases
Well, that's how she's protrayed in the stupid book.

You mean like the fact superhero films are on a downward trend in general and that less people are going to theaters because streaming has taken over as the main means of consuming entertainment?
