the character im thinking off is probably long forgotten and lost but i know she came back in the vampire series with midnighter. but that arkam knight would have been so much better as a "twist" because then the obvious twist would be a big middle finger to the people who thought it would what it already hinted at being.
the arkham knight i mean is the girl who was basically raised in cell next to a lab with her dad and snuck out and made freinds with the inmates in the glass hannibal lector style dungeon

Really, what would the motivations of the Arkham Knight would be then? What if the Game developers made the Arkham Knight's identity Jeremiah Arkham. Who, inspired by the death of the Joker, decides for the ultimate solution to Gotham's criminals (i.e. death), since his Arkham Asylum got destroyed.

I randomly guessed when my friend asked who I thought it was and he seemed genuinely upset I got it right. I wouldn't mind an Arkham version of Under the Red Hood but not building it up beyond a single sentence from the Joker in City made the twist obvious from the first flashback to Jason.

The game frames AK as someone who used to work for Batman the moment he opens his mouth, so the by the first cutscene in the game. They literally confirm you it's Jason by mid-point of the main story with the flash-back. It wasn't a twist, especially not by the end. You nerds just expected the devs to openly admits "yeah, you're right, it's Jason" before the game was even out and ruin the experience for everyone else.

It's legitimately funny to me that people figured out he was Jason instantly and the devs had to outright lie out their asses and say "N-no he's not, he's an original character, we swear!"

Like did they really think they were being clever? Did they genuinely believe that no one would immediately realize he was Jason?

What did people actually want here? I don't understand, yes sure I can concede the story would have been better if they actually set something like this up in a previous game but it still wouldn't be a big twist regardless. You just wanted them to put a random character under the mask to trick you?
Pretty much every suggestion I have seen for who it could have been would have lead to far more complaints and would only exist to subvert your expectations for the sake of subverting your expectations and since nothing was set up in the previous games it wouldn't even be a twist in any narrative sense it would just be meta. This is on the same level as complaining in a story where Harvey Dent turns into Two Face like you know the lore good for you. You aren't mad that you saw the "twist" coming because obviously you saw it coming, the story itself was just boring which is why you are mad

I knew it going in, and I never saw it as being a twist, and at most a reveal for the characters, but not the player, so it never really bothered me.
That said, the media circus before the release about how it's totally a new character and whatever, didn't help the game.

It really should've just been a random guy. Would it have been anymore ridiculous than Jason Todd assembling his own military force? At least then they can play up some theming about how what under the mask isn't as important compared to what the mask does.
