It's totally within character for her to bring that up.

She always seemed very punkish, yet grown up, wise, and comfortable in her own body, despite her cynicism.

I really enjoyed it when she said that because I didn't expect her, or the creators to be so bold to have her say it out loud. Really does a good job reminding you this isn't an overly-sanitized kids show, nor a raunchy adult comedy, it's somewhere in between.
It's an adolescent show that's well written and animated, while still having an underground feeling around it, and that makes it pretty fresh.

Wait, didn't she say in episode 1 or 2 she keep switching pieces and just couldn't find something that feels right? That's why in episode 4 she keeps looking for pieces to try and finds the happy mask and asks Gangle if she wants to use it.
