You think that if modern Superman stories kept them dead like in Pre-Crisis, they would eventually make stories that imply they're bad people or at least morally gray? You know, like they've done with other long-dead parents such as the Waynes and the Els.

No, the Kents are the one parents I can't see ever being made into bad people. They're supposed to be the reason Superman is such an unyielding boy scout

Yeah, but good parents could still be bad people.

lmao they're farmers from Kansas, I can think of at least 3 ways they could make them morally dubious.
Then the lesson would be about Clark doing good not because his parents told him, but because of his own accord.

Midwestern farm boy goodie two shoes who loves his ma and pa doesn't work the same if they're cooking meth in the barn or something

It can work, it would just be a different type of story, like when they make the Waynes and Els evil/morally questionable.

Superman writers need to make a firm stance: either he cares about the Kent’s and disregards his kryptonian heritage or vice versa- there’s just too much going on with 2 sets of parents and one of the many reasons people find the character unrelatable

Oh, it 100% would've been done at some point, the shock and subversion from the kind farmers actually being KKK members or some shit would've been too much for hack writers to resist.

I think Clark can care about 2 sets of parents and cultures actually, it's not exactly unheard of in real life.
Both Earth and Krypton should be important to Clark, he's a man of two worlds.

I still think they should be dead.

True, a lot of writers seem to juggle it awkwardly though from what I’ve seen so far digging into the character

Yeah probably.
