The biggest difference is the Mutants don't get to choose to be flatscans, whereas Inhumans elect to attain their strange and often life altering powers. Though there are exceptions, like Kamala.

MCU Nick Fury is based on Ultimate Nick who was based on the likeness of Sam Jack because the comic wanted a 'movie-like' feel. Sam agreed as long as they would hire him if they ever made a movie.

Be real. No one gave a shit about OG Nick, like how no one gave a fuck about Tony Stark prior to '08, or anyone gave a rusty fart about Steve Rogers before 1st avengers.
Changing Thor in Ragnarok or the GoTG for all of their films is fine because they're nobodies.
Kamala had decent readership or at the very least a fanbase aware of her powers and narrative. This synergy just sucks.

>Aren't Inhumans just store-brand mutants already? What's the actual difference?
Hello, 2010s casual. The actual difference is that the Inhumans were one of those 1960s Jack Kirby secret lost civilizations of advanced super-beings, who lived apart from the rest of the world in their own secret city, with their own culture that was sometimes very alien to normal humans. The Inhumans go through a ceremony during their teenage years where they get random powers from the Terrigen mist. After the Fantastic Four helped the Inhuman royals defeat an evil usurper tyrant, sometimes some of the Inhumans like Medusa or Crystal would journey to the outside world to be a superheroine with the FF or the Avengers.

This was completely different to mutants being born in human nations to normal human parents, because of radiation (or later "because of a gene that is literally X shaped because comics are retarded"), and just manifesting powers during puberty, and it's also different from being a poorly thought out metaphor for the minorities or the gays that never really worked.

Somehow in the 2010s Marvel tried turning the Inhumans into off-brand X-Men and managed to make casuals and X-Men fandom forget the Inhumans ever existed before that. Then Hickman sort of turned the mutants into off-brand Inhumans but with pitfights and orgies, and nobody even noticed it.

There are X-Men fans, but only limited to comics. Marvel is gonna get a huge reality check when their X-Men reboot doesn't cross $600M in the box office (out of the Fox movies, only DOFP reached that number. F4 had similar or more hype and still crashed).

Anon, while I don't think the X-Men are like a silver bullet that will save the MCU (or at least not enough for a whole phase based on them), I absolutely expect an X-Men movie to do better than FF, especially if it has more action and isn't playing chicken with a DC movie.

The thing about Deadpool & Wolverine is that those were the two most popular FoX-Men characters by far. And the movie was sold as a nostalgia fest. And we kinda know from rumours neither character is planned to be in the X-Men reboot for now

I don't know, I really doubt "Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey fighting Mr Sinister" is gonna do much better than "the Fantastic Four fighting Galactus". Hell, Superman is barely gonna cross $600M and that movie had insane amounts of hype and discourse in CBM circles.

A lot is going to depend on casting, and how hard they go on The Metaphor. An X-Men reboot offers a lot of possibilities for them to prioritize The Message over making money, the same way the comics have been doing for about 25 years. It's very possible they'll create something critics and Twitter love, but utterly repellent to normal human beings.

>>149941360
The Deadpool movies routinely mogged the actual X-Men movies, and the Wolverine solo movies. There's a good chance a Deadpool MCU movie could've made that billion with or without Wolverine, but I don't see MCU X-Men doing that well without Reynolds or Jackman.

I'm not really using D&W as the metric, but the X-Men have absolutely a better in with people considering several cartoons and at least some nostalgia for the old movies, yeah, it's not gonna be as strong due to recast, but still.
Also, I'm like 70% sure they're gonna keep Hugh around as like an older mentor a la Evolution.
Also, Superman probably would have done better without FF biting it's ankles.

Literally no one cares about Kamala. She was originally going to be a mutant before the Inhuman shenanigans. Her first series sold really badly but the volume 1 trade paperback collecting the first issues sold very well because it was heavily pushed in the Young Adult book market but had a MASSIVE volume 1 drop off so the sales of TPB of her first series are weighted like 50% to the first volume and not the other nine TPBs. Into this comes the constant drone of "she had potential though" which is something you could say about any character. She was a bland Spider-Man (young hero) type with cutesy stuff and nothing more. The second series sold like shit. She routinely goes under normal cancellation levels. She was put with the Inhumans and it sold like shit. Put with the X-Men and it sold like shit. Put with the Avengers and it sold like shit. She got a team with other young heroes and it sold like shit and the only notably thing was people shipping her with Cyclops. She was in the Avengers video game which failed for a variety of reasons. She was in Marvel Rising cartoon which failed. Finally she gets an MCU show and the actress is alright but the show had lower viewers than Willow. Willow did so badly it was literally scorched earth off of Disney+. Her powers were changed and her origin was boring. She was killed off in Spider-Man and no one cared. Finally she was in an MCU movie and despite being probably the best part of the movie, it was the biggest MCU bomb. And now she is back only being properly paired with the X-Men and having everything changed about her while a special Giant Size X-Men comic had to put her travelling through the X-Men's past. And still people pretend like she meant something to them and is wasted potential but ultimately she is another D-lister comic character going through the grinder. I respect the coomers and waifuists more than the supposed real fans.

>She was originally going to be a mutant before the Inhuman shenanigans.
They've got the original writer to claim that, so Marvel can try to make the retcon look less egregious, but only they know if it's true or just a PR stunt to help sell the retcon.

If any Marvel writer in the 2010s really did intend their new OC to be a mutant just as a "this is why they have powers" explanation, and thought they wouldn't get sucked into the X-books and ruined, they'd be absolutely delusional.

>the only notably thing was people shipping her with Cyclops.

Anon, this isn't true. I have seen this claim going right back until the start, far before the retcon or any subsequent PR.

I heard G Willow Wilson mention it many years ago, far prior to the PR articles in 2022 on the retcon. And her comments are what those theories were based on.

i don't get why he's so surprised? i saw this coming lightyears away the moment i saw that they changed her powers in the trailer

kamala is truly one of those characters that's a victim of their own popularity/success because it really does feel like the moment the character got enough traction for a mainstream push everything went off rails for them...
>Vol. 1 was a good lighthearted all ages superhero book and she gets popular enough to appear in other books.
>outside her solo book she was either written as a ditzy fangirl or a stick in the mud teacher's pet.
>she was dragged into civil war 2 which tanked the numbers of every character that was dragged into it.
>Vol. 2 was basically all "very special episode"-tier storylines that ruined the lighter tone of the book.
>while she was considered a highlight in the avengers game the game itself was a total flop.
>gets relegated to being a supporting character/sidekick to spider-man for a while.
>dies and gets retconned into being a mutant.
>gets an MCU show that completely changes her powers to green lantern shit and leads into the captain marvel sequel.
>both the show and the movie flops and the character is basically in limbo as far as the MCU is concerned.
>she comes back in time for the MCU show and gets a mini series written by her actress which is surprisingly good.
>fast forward to now and she finally gets her MCU powers as a secondary mutation years after her MCU stuff was relevant.
