Hank is limpwristed towards his Dad in a way that almost feels uncharacteristic of him. All Cotton ever does is complain and demasculate Hank at every turn, the only genuine compliment he ever gives Hank is that Bobby is a better son than him. Hank gets nothing out of being nice to Cotton and saving him from his own hubris outside of proving he's the son Cotton should be thankful for. It's pretty frustrating that Hank doesn't put his foot down harder on Cotton for shitting on Hank and everything he loves, like his own Mom and Wife

Cotton did fight in both Europe and the Pacific. Where he fucks up is he thought he fought in Munich. He wasn't lying on purpose. When Peggy corrects him in saying he never fought in Munich he basically goes "oh I didn't? huh" like a confused old man.
