It feels forced.
It worked in Space Odyssey because it was Hal’s last words. The last words of the computer before its death are its first words. That is clever.
Caine has the ability to teleport people to him. There is zero reason for him to start singing Daisy Bell when Zooble locks him out. It just feels shoehorned. Like if out of nowhere Caine started quoting AM’s hate speech.

Actual unpopular opinion: "Media literacy" is overrated, especially given the absolute torrent of shit there is to watch/read/whatever.
Your media should be able to stand on its own merits.
Whenever anyone says
>oh did you actually read/watch X?
I'm gonna start saying
>no, and I have no reason to
With the amount of video essays sucking off villains/characters/video games/whatever, I'm just going to take whatever they say about characters at face value because I don't have time for that shit.
>no but you won't understand it unless you watch the original!!!
If the people who constantly reference it and write four-hour tirades on it don't understand it, why should I be expected to?
I am no longer apologizing for being a secondary to anything. If making derivative content is legitimate content, then watching derivative content is legitimate fandom.

>MEDIA LITERACY!!!1!
Technological literacy.
Daisy Bell goes back further than Space Odyssey and was the first synthesized vocal song in 1961, chosen in reference to Bell Laboratories. Space Odyssey references this as becoming a standard practice for training AI's, which while that isn't directly the case, it still became common practice to include it by default in a lot of softwares and programs as an Easter egg.

Media literacy isn’t about flexing how much garbage you’ve consumed, retard. It’s means actually thinking about what you’re reading. Of course you think it’s “overrated,” you don’t even know what it is.

Toasters are too reflective. Getting reflections to work on non-simple geometries looks cool but taxes the hell out of your system. A lot of early games mimicked reflections by just creating a second room with identical models or by superimposing a static sprite as an object.

Firstly, please show in that post where it says that anyone is "defined by corporate product"?

Secondly, neither Alien nor Star Wars were "corporate product designed to sell buckets." Alien didn't have branding and toys until years later. The Star Wars toys were an afterthought. Lucas never thought "oh, I'll throw a load of aliens into the cantina to make more toys." That Star Wars sold buckets of toys took everyone by surprise, so much so that the contract with Mattel was a bit a mistake. The very idea that a movie could sell buckets of toys was originates from Star Wars, hence "era defining."

Lastly, I think I need to point out that I use "Star Wars" to mean the original movie, the one that got retconned into "Episode 4: A New Hope." Obviously the sequels and prequels and crapquels are designed to sell toys. My post wasn't talking about those.
