Anti-Drug Episodes
Do they still make these? Or has the drug crisis gotten better?

No, quite the opposite. We're now at zombie apocalypse levels.

Yeah, it's interesting how kids media just completely ignores the opioid epidemic while being all about racial/sexual equality. Kinda shows how it's only middle class people making cartoons now because the issues facing people at the bottom of society don't get a look in.

About what I expected. I guess with D.A.R.E.-style drug education going out of style, the drug episode went with it. It's a shame really. It'd be funny seeing Marcy Wu deal with a vaping addiction.

Why would they need to? Weed is legal and like 50% of the USA is hooked on fent for life. Any anti-drug message directed towards kids is easily defused when they say "Yeah, but my parents smoke weed so it must be OK."

It's not nearly as bad as the 70s or 80s but it's also the worst that it's been since the early 90s. Fentanyl's basically doing what crack cocaine did but it's not -quite- that bad yet even though it is getting worse. Funnily enough drug use bottomed out almost precisely when the episode OP posted premiered.

Don't forget the part where kids don't watch cartoons anymore so they wouldn't see the anti-drug message anyway.

>D.A.R.E was meant to teach kids about the dangers of drugs and why they should be avoided
>backfired spectacularly because they inadvertently gave millions of children an encyclopedic knowledge base on which drugs do what to your system and also gave them ballpark estimates on how much they could take without getting caught and/or dying
Will never not be absolutely hilarious to me, I swear

Even drug psa episodes covers alcohol and prescription medications and how parents are using legal substances as an adult, lawfully or with a prescription under doctors orders.

Weed is a goddamn pop top compared to the full on nuclear devices that are hard shit like meth or heroin. If anything, they should be doubling down on anti-drug PSAs simply because weed has become so prolific. Tell the kids that it's ok for people to smoke this silly plant that makes cartoons better, but STAY THE FUCK AWAY from the shit that'll strait up make your teeth fall out.

Weed should be outlawed simply because it stinks like absolute shit. I hate going someplace and getting blasted by a cloud of stank simply because someone can't go 5 minutes without getting stoned.

They can make weed that gets rid of the smell. I bet that if everyone just smoked that, more people would be OK with it in public spaces.

Interesting point. I wonder if this is because so much of 2000s/early 2010s culture was focused on drinking.

Cartoons avoid anything that'll stress kids out, I've read S&P demands on some currently airing cartoons.
So anti-drug stuff is way too much.

Selective breeding, as with other weed variants. The marijuana plant has been extensively studied and analyzed.

I use vape cartridges with THC oil and they rarely if ever have a smell to them. Its more of the plant itself burning that makes the smell than does the actual chemicals that get you high. And like >>149952221 said, people have been breeding strains for decades now, so it wouldn't be super difficult to make a new strain that at least has the smell dampened somewhat

I remember Yu-Gi-Oh had this PSA that implied that Kaiba was a drug dealer because he owns the Blue Eyes White Dragon.

Sonic Sez had episodes warning about Tails smoking and drinking.

What makes me sad about Trump de-funding PBS is that PBS cartoons did teach about good morality. And I do believe this is in national interests to show these cartoons to kids. Arthur did teach some good lessons to kids "it's bad to steal, it's bad to hit DW, it's bad to cheat."

And no, the drug crisis hasn't gotten any better. Fentanyl is far worse than weed and drinking. I literally see toddlers and babies at reggae concerts and breweries these days.

Alcohol is so much worse than weed, even those other two if you're going by total societal effect

I'd give props to any cartoon that did an anti-alcohol but drug-neutral episode

I won't exactly say "episodes" but the only anti-drug animation that I've seen within the past 10 years are those Little Lungs commercials.

Good luck trying to ban alcohol when that is so easy to make. The US tried that at a constitutional level ~100 Years ago and it did not work.

People just need to wake the hell up and see that alcohol is a shitty drug compared to weed or mushrooms and the only reason it's popular is, well, because it's popular

I would argue growing weed or mushrooms is easier than brewing beer too

I'm pretty sure anti-drug episodes in conjunction with projects like the war on Drugs and the D.A.R.E. program actually increased their proliferation and usage.

That's kind of the fucked thing about alcohol innit? Easy as fuck to make to the point that actually banning it is impossible and it comes down to the choice of the individual on how to interact with it. And a lot of people are fucking retards or genetically predisposed to hitting 10 bottles at a time.

It forced booze and liquor from the go-to drink to a 'for after hours'. Compare and contrast Russia which in 1900-ish was downright sober compared to the USA, but never changed course. Now Ziggers are so alcohol dependent Vodka is a more stable currency than the Rubble.

Even worse: Alcohol has legitimate uses in medical care to disinfect and clean while being 'relatively benign' to humans.
So even if you magically stop all home-brewers, you still need shitloads of the stuff around, just sitting there.

The thing no-one ever seems to teach kids about alcohol (but they really fucking should) is that everybody has a different tolerance. It's fine in moderation but what counts as "moderation" different from person to person.

I dunno, that happened in the UK too without prohibition, I think between the 1950s and the present day it just gradually stopped being acceptable to be drunk at work.

I've worked in ER. It's rather common during summer Saturday nights to receive ambulances with teen girls that have essentially an alcohol induced coma.
One in particular amused me. It was her 15th birthday and she celebrated it at home with her parents and friends, yet she came to the ER completely blacked out due to drinking a whiskey bottle.
Unsure how the parents let that happen, but it did amuse me that her little sister was there and she was bawling her eyes out. She shouldn't have been sad for her sister, but rather for herself, because in a few years I bet it would be her coming here black out drunk.

I mean, I'd say it's fairly normal to do that once or twice in your teens while you're getting used to what you can handle (not to end up in ER necessarily, but just to get black-out drunk). The main thing is not to make a habit of it. There's definitely too many people do that and alcoholism is a problem.
