I didn't watch the video so maybe this is addressed or she's talking about each as a separate phenomenon, but I think the stereotypical "CalArts" style and the stereotypical "tumblr" style were completely different things.

Like the CalArts style was going for a generically cute-yet-offbeat look that got a bad rep through overexposure while the tumblr style was more often making everyone fatter/trans/hairy/ugly/black/red-nose-having for "realism"

It never was a bad art style. The similarities were overblown and just became a proxy for things people didn't like in comics and cartoons from like 2014-2020. Any reasonable critique of style or even the animation industry just gets boiled down to a few buzzwords (CalArts, hipster, Tumblr, beanmouth, millennial, zoomer, etc.).
I will say, though, it was kinda funny when anons and industry professionals were duking it out. I'll never forget the Thundercats Roar showdown, the CalArts redesigns, and the DeCalArts posting.

Patient Zero I'd say is either Adventure Time or Flapjack. Both shows can be seen with these blatant CalArts design choices like simple expressions and beanmouths and inoffesnsive round shapes but they werent following a trend so they still had a lot of uniqueness to their style, Flapjack with its more painterly backgrounds and still doing the classic painted face gags, and Adventure time with all its unqie monsters/girls and world design
But afterwards youd get Regular Show, Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, all the way up to the current hellscape of design that we now live in. only now are we getting unique designs again with our cartoons, even if it is mostly indies picking up the slack

Well for one in real life when observing people specific colors on the face tend to appear in the same areas, but since were dealing with cartoonists they can exaggerate features and instead of a subtle red being used they just place a block of red.
Also from an animation perspective if you use the same block of red for a nose you dont have to worry about drawing an actual nose in perspective since that can block can shit from one angle to the next and be consistent. Watch Over The Garden Wall, thats like the most obvious example I can think of.
I dont like it either but thats the logic behind it

The real reason this artstyle sucks is because it represents a lack of artistic freedom given to us by the current industry, executives force all shows to be beanmouth, sucking the creativity out of their designs, shit like Elio and Wylde Pak had more unique designs in their concept art but were completely beanmouthed in the final product all cause executives see that style as being cheaper and more "appealing", nobody in the industry willingly designs their characters like that, it’s only loved by corporate suits.

correct. also, the tumblr style, while still around, has declined substantially. artists who still post there (not the people uploading random doodles who clearly don't draw as a serious interest) more frequently generate more traditionally appealing material because they're using it as a repository.
