The only people usually killed in the Coliseum were those set for execution. While the iconic feeding Christians to lions was done, most of the time they were just killed by beheading, usually during the lunch break.

The worst part about the clips surrounding this show is that their reasons for telling Christopher Columbus bad comes from a place of "I was taught he invented slavery". It aims to teach kids that "white Americans invented slavery" is taught in school when it isn't. People get retarded about American history and assume world history leaves out stories of slaves from before Columbus and so when you get to the part of slavery in the US, it just sort of appears and it's intentionally taught that way to make kids hate white people. It's such a long shot, if makes multiple assumptions, but it's believed as truth with such confidence this show exists.

It's kind of funny when people I grew up with pull the "we didn't learn THAT in history class!" bullshit and I have to say yes, we did, I was in that class with you, it was like February of seventh grade. You just didn't give a shit about history at the time and willingly didn't retain anything, while I liked it and even kept the textbook since they were upgrading the next year.

This is most of discourse, unfortunately. Either it absolutely was there and they just didn't pay attention, or it would never be there, because history education is just meant to be a framework, and the Polish-Soviet wars aren't ever going to make the cut just because now you think they're interesting. They taught you that WW1 ended, Poland was reborn, and the Soviets took over the Russian Empire, that's your context.

I legitimately have never taken a history class. There was some bullshit with my school district moving me to different classes and somehow it just got skipped. And yet I'm continually surprised at things people simply don't know about history that I do and I'm just like man that seems kind of fucking important are you sure they didn't teach that
