the solution?
if people aren't buying capeshit but more and more people are getting into anime / toku sloppa would it be smart to test the waters with media more directly inspired by that
>batman fightan with gatchaman-inspired designs
>superman mecha influenced by mazinger with kaiju villains
just seems kinda weird to me that marvel and dc in particular would open the door to this kind of thing with multiverse shit and then just never explore it anywhere

copying anime never increases sales

deal with it

Weebs wouldn't bite because to them anything from japan=good which they gladly scarfe down and consoom now matter how low quality yet have the gaul to call anything western as cringe and especially hate western attempts at aping anime as being a "knock off"

>Spider-Man is so Japanese that a pic like that for him wouldn't make sense.
LOL. btw that Superman should be swapped with Captain Marvel, and Batman's boots look gay. Dumb /a/ thread

>succeed by copying manga/anime that haven't had any success in the US for over 25 years
Also Gatchaman is Batman inspired. Amano is a Batman fan.

They need to get rid of their decades old IP. Create something new, stop making everything part of the same world.
Draw sexy characters, draw good action. It doesn't need to be Japanified.

You mean less and less. Anime and manga sales have dropped over 60% worldwide over the past three years.

This is the result of making every new anime isekai shit. Nature is healing

A DC Mangaverse wouldn't be the worst idea. Get some notable manga creators to contribute for authenticity and it could actually be pretty interesting.

That's dumb as hell. People don't read manga because they love big robots or other dumb anime tropes. If anything, manga has succeeded in spite of its own tropes, not because of them.

Should American comics try to emulate manga? In some ways sure. The distribution model, physical format, and lower budget of manga could really help improve the sales of domestic books.
But, that isn't as easy as it seems.

A problem American comic-makers have with emulating manga is that America doesn't have the cultural infrastructure to support a thriving comics-scene the way Japan does.
Manga make money because anime is such a huge business, and a significant portion of manga get anime adaptations.
The anime scene makes young Japanese people actually want to go and buy manga.

America, to emulate this, would have to start making tons of new, highly advertised shows about a multitude of completed comic arcs (so not so much superheroes) to get Americans to actually buy new books, and to get non-dedicated comic book stores to carry them.

DC and Marvel try that over and over.
Back when the New 52 launched DC tried making new westerns and military stories which weren't in the grander DC continuity. And they flopped hard.

Whenever the big two try to push something not superhero-related, it bombs.
And when they try to make new superheroes, usually they bomb, too.

It's weird you don't see more toku in America when power rangers was so successful back in the day, there seems to be an audience for it.

hell yeah it is! come to think of it, the concept of deep sea gigantism probably lends really well to a kyodai hero archetype to him in particular...

>DC Mangaverse
oooh, that could be pretty cool too! your point on getting actual manga creators to contribute would be neat too... can't help but think a nagai-designed superman (or captain marvel, like the other anon pointed out!) could be an insane addition to the lineup lol
>>149963794
seems like the sort of thing you'd think would pick up in popularity, but i guess when your competition is something with as massive of a budget as like, the MCU, it's a bit of a harder sell
still, always struck me as odd that we've not seen something of a "western toku emergence" over time? feels like the sort of thing that could genuinely develop something of an audience

We still have Batman and Spider-Man comics coming out today. They haven't "tried" anything.

Should've gone with the Keyop costume for Robin.

Surprising how well the Jimmy Olsen/ Superman dynamic works with a giant robo setup.

ignoring the doomer bullshit I would like an elseworlds thing with this sorta deal, I even thought up some ideas for a DC mangaverse kinda like what marvel did but less stupid
I do vaguely remember the amecomi line but I dont remember if that actually was a comic or just a line of statues

man that kinda sucks :(
idk there's a certain type of vibe from like, 70s anime & toku especially, that's really got this timeless quality to it
kinda sucks that so few people appreciate it...

A Mazinger version of Captain Marvel makes more sense than Superman. If we're gonna to Tonko Superman I think something like the Guyver makes more sense.

Sure, there are things America can learn from Japanese, like using smaller page sizes when drawing or having stories that have a beginning, middle, and end.

Im not a big fan of the toxic work culture that manga industry has.

DC is LITERALLY doing this in October. Maybe do some research before making a thread about something that's actually happening.

Our western Toku is stuff like the CW DC shows/Smallville or Doctor Who. Effects driven genre shows.
Saban attempted their own Japanese tokusatsu show with Mystic Knights, and it wasn't worth the cost.
