So why did he leave the company to Ratchet and seclude himself in his workshop?

>Son, let me give you a good piece of advice
>Yes?
>Give up
>What? You're telling me to quit?
>I said "give up," but "quit" works just as good
>Is that what you did? Is that why you're sitting here letting Ratchet turn robots like my father into outmodes?
>Kid, sometimes you just gotta know when you're licked
>But you're Bigweld. You can fix anything
>I used to think so. To me, having the company was all about making life better. With Ratchet, it was making money that came first. I became old-fashioned. An outmode. Go home, kid. If he beat me, he's gonna beat you

Pretty weak explanation

It was a metaphor for what was going on at Disney. Ratchet is Michael Eisner, Bigweld is the Disney family, Rodney is John Lasseter

It's very hard for me to imagine Bigweld didn't step on just as many if not more toes than Ratchet did when that entire industrial utopia was his doing in the first place.

>Company ru...? Well, then how do they hire new inventors?
>They don't. Those days are over. My advice: Come back two years ago. Then the job is yours

Hey stan. As per usual, Rodney's reality is pretty much shattered when he thinks Tim would act like he would on the show. But it's shown that Tim is an asshole. Very common

Sure it’s rarely that simple IRL but I appreciate Robots acknowledging that to serve a need at scale, you need investment, research, and production/distribution at scale. For all of Rodney’s skill and altruistic heart, he can’t pull the components people need out of thin air so the company is necessary, moral drive corrections notwithstanding

odd. I can understand it with shark tale, which looks very unappealing visually so i never seen it (and which came off as riding the coattails of finding nemo), but to me as a kid, Robots was the well remembered movie I watched several times over. meanwhile madagascar I saw once and didnt need it again, nor the sequels. the penguin show was good however.

It wasn't about standardized models at all and it is established in the movie that robots are basically infinitely repairable and can swap parts with even the new stuff regardless of the design variety.

The problem was that these new standardized parts that should be theoretically cheaper because of the more efficient production were ridiculously price gouged and replaced all the old cheaper options, pricing people out of life - literally because they had kidnapping street sweeper robots that swept up the poor and smelted them into these new parts. If anything, it is an allegory for the housing market or gentrification.
