It wasn't about standardized models at all and it is established in the movie that robots are basically infinitely repairable and can swap parts with even the new stuff regardless of the design variety.
The problem was that these new standardized parts that should be theoretically cheaper because of the more efficient production were ridiculously price gouged and replaced all the old cheaper options, pricing people out of life - literally because they had kidnapping street sweeper robots that swept up the poor and smelted them into these new parts. If anything, it is an allegory for the housing market or gentrification.
