>Did the Japanese actually have opposition to guns as to burn them for even being in the country?
A few did, but the fascination with the tech took over. The first firearms weren’t ideal, but Japanese smiths pushed designs to extremes. When they saw newer, more practical Western guns, they again became obsessed and iterated further. They phased out most melee weapons, but I don't think there was ever a widespread rejection of guns.
"To answer your question directly: no, the Japanese did not reject the newer firearms when they were introduced. However, there was certainly a lag in the technology they were using compared to the West, mainly due to their isolationist policies. Once Japan opened up to the outside world, they made an impressive leap in military technology, absorbing and adapting the most advanced firearms of the time. This included breech-loading rifles, repeating firearms, and eventually even the development of their own firearms, like the Arisaka rifle."
