Because sadly they always make that their personality, their thing, is being black. And it shouldn't necessarily be that way. I have just read the first decade of Spider-Man comics, but Robbie is a cool guy. I like him. In some of his first appearances he would talk about topics related with civil rights, specially with his son. But it wasn't very annoying, and overall I wouldn't call him "the civil rights guy"
One note characters like that aren't good

They overthink it mainly. Either they want them to try too hard to be a cool urban black guy, or they're too clean cut and inoffensive
Spawn was effectively conceived without a race in mind, McFarlane made him black because he wanted to name him after a guy he knew who was black and ran with it and thought there wouldn't be any reason why white readers wouldn't like a black character if he made him cool enough.

There are plenty of cool black characters, the problem is that some comic book creators don't really respect black Americans. And when I mean respect, I mean seeing them as people which means neither handling them as tokens with kid gloves on (that's dehumanizing and infantilization), going full SHIEEEEET, or turning them into non-threatening nerdy Oreos.

The solution is to just treat black people like people. Stop putting them on pedestals or acting like they're inhuman. Go out and talk to them, make some friends, or read about black history in a book that's not written by someone with a liberal arts degree who doesn't live near black people.

>>149964798
I've noticed that black characters tend to come in a few varieties.

>the serious one (usually an authority figure)
>the tough one (the fighter)
>the energetic one (always on his feet - runner)
>the super positive one (golly gee whiz)
>the shy one
>the funny one
>the nerdy one
>the self-hating one
>the hater

I always hate when people insist that Spawn isn't black enough of a character because that kinda goes against the whole philosophy behind his character. Obviously, Spawn being black isn't inconsequential or unimportant, but morons going "he need to be a BLACK superhero, clearly Todd FAILED in this department" kinda end up reinforcing racism.

Morgan Freeman got a lot of flack for saying "stop talking about race/racism" in that one interview, but he was kinda right. People need to stop dwelling on race and racism, especially towards fictional hyper-exaggerated dramatic settings. I love Spawn and I want more pulpy heroes just like him.

I keep seeing this but I think its fucking retarded. Nobody reads superhero comics because they don't want to see the hero act or do inhuman shit. Maybe just be okay that the black guy will be better than everyone else because that's how these kinds of books work? I swear only white people and their toms have a issue with this shit when its a black person. Nobody got their nuts in a twist when they saw 10,000 little Asian kids turn into demigods by the age of 16 in manga. Fuckin Cyborg who is half alien robot mind you is a better hacker than Batman!?! This can't be allowed to stand! Get a grip white people. Jesus Christ.

I think you can make black legacy characters universally loved, the problem is that writers treat them like shit and don't put enough love and care into their stories because they'd prefer to make money off of royalties and kick the can to the next writer. The characters end up coming across like tokens or diversity hires.

I love Batwing I. But I hate Lucius Fox and Signal. Hate Miles Morales in the comics, but the second Spider-Verse movie did a great job with him. Love Aqualad (but then they made him gay and now no one wants to do anything with him).

No one ever said black characters can't act black or reference black history/culture, the problem is that Anglo writers generally don't see black people as human and it reflects in what they write.

Whenever the attempt is made to write about black history or culture, it's always done in a very egocentric/patronizing/dehumanizing/self-hating way. It's how we get whites demanding to see stuff about "the BLACK experience" as if being black somehow makes your life way more uniquely different than a white guy's. Obviously, black men are treated differently than white men, but the prevailing attitude among liberal white is still reinforcing racism by acting as if the inherent differences between ethnic-cultural groups are MUCH deeper than they actually are and that there's no way the average person could empathize without bringing attention to those differences. That's retarded. Black people and white people have far more in common than anyone wants to admit.

It's about dehumanizing blacks by making them stereoptypes. It'd be the equivalent of like, a black written series where every white person is a haughty yuppie, evil business man poisoning their koolaid, or a redneck KKK member

It would be one thing if they were black caricatures made by people (of any race) who lived around black people, because it would be no different than pulpy fiction made by black people where that's exactly the case. Not ideal, but nowhere near as damaging. It's genuinely shitty because instead it's made by Anglos who don't want to have anything to do with black people but still want to be known as "not racist" to others.

Black history and culture basically doesn't exist.

Black American history is basically just Jews buying them from other Africans, bringing them to the US, being freed, then endlessly bitching about not getting more rights and handouts then they'd ever get in any of the African countries that they came from. Black American culture is basically just crime, bastardizing the English language by refusing to actually learn it (which is why they say shit like "ratchet" as a bastardization of "wretched") and shitty media sold to them by Jews.

Africa (sub-saharan Africa, where Blacks actually come from) has a history that consists almost entirely of not advancing past the stone age and mud huts as far as we know because much of the continent didn't even bother to create a written language. The rest is just tribal warfare, enslaving each other and rape.

Like he’s just a nerdy black kid in the projects who ends up running with the wrong crowd to fit in and realizes he isn’t a gangster or a murderer but obviously it’s too late as there’s a huge psyop gang war going on and he gets mixed up in the Big Bang, but it also give him a second chance at life to make things right for his city and what he was changing into before he got his powers. People who get into comics and then writing and drawing them are inherently at odds with "real" black culture, which likely tried to drag down and destroy the ambitions of any young black creative who wanted to write and draw instead of deal drugs, rap, or play basketball. However, black creatives are completely chained to the idea that they have to represent and authentically speak on behalf of black culture, because otherwise Jew producers and executives won't hire them or publish their works.

I didn't mind it till that arc where she cucked him with Stephen Strange and he explained how her selfish, whorish behavior was justified and he loved her no matter what.

Because of that whole thing, Carol should have given him a free pass on someone he chooses. And Rhodey should have picked Jessica Drew. So Rhodey fucks Jessica in front of Carol.
And. Carol finds out she gets turned on being a cuckqueen.

Static’s pretty cool.

I didn’t know his love interest were based on Spider-Man’s.
Frieda Goren = Mary Jane Watson
Daisy Watkins = Gwen Stacy
Dusk = Black Cat

Only instead of killing off the “Gwen Stacy” character, they chose to kill off the “Black Cat” one.
