Kinda. The Shazam movie pulled from The New 52 interpretation of Billy where he's a moody and troubled foster kid who grows to become less surly and more emotionally vulnerable. Billy's not pure of heart, he's actually just got a lot of potential for goodness in him.

Classic Billy is straight up a little angel, the perfect idea of what a young boy should be. Kind, moral, emotionally mature, etc. Boy scout. Future hero.

Modern Billy is a grounded take on that. He's got a good heart but he's not perfect. He can be antagonistic, grumpy, surly, ticked off, etc. Like an actual teenage boy. Moody.

It's what the above anon said, they don't want to make Superman and CM/Shazam too similar in personality, but that doesn't really check out because Golden Age/Silver Age Superman (his real personality) is distinguished by being aggressive, clever, bold, arrogant/naive, and the man who can do everything. He's incredibly kind but he's not pure of heart. He doesn't even have a no-kill rule, classic Batman and Wonder Woman do. He's sorta Christlike (Doc Savage), but in the sense that he's the violent savior. A "wild man" like Samson and Heracles.

Classic Billy is distinct for being pure of heart and closer to the loving-kindness Christ ideal. His adult transformation is meant to symbolize how young children view their fathers and adulthood. Billy is like Sora or Naruto.
