The JMS run had some really good character development and evolution for Spider-Man not just in the way he brought Peter and MJ back together but also in the way that becoming a high school teacher forced Peter to look at societal problems from another perspective that goes beyond just punching bad guys and webbing up car thieves and bank robbers. I wonder what would have been the natural progression of the character if Spider-Man didn't join the Avengers and continued on the track that he was on before the editors derailed the plot

There was never another plot. They hire JMS under the pretense of rebuilding Peter relationship and then dissolve the marriage. Basically they let him play with the toys under the condition to return them to the box before he left.

I'd like for Peter to continue being a high school professor for a while longer until maybe MJ gets pregnant and then he has to get a new job for a larger lab or company as a researcher or technician. During which he could pursue a PhD where he gets it and then could work as a college professor. I feel like that could be an open-ended enough postion for Peter to encounter a new generation of characters, have some flesibility in how he can duck out and become Spider-Man, and make enough money to sustain his family beyond relying on MJ's profession.
That and you can do the Spectacular cartoon type bookending where Peter teaches and learns lessons to his students and from his students. Maybe at point Mayday is his student if the timeline matches up.

I'm not sure it's necessary for MJ to get pregnant again since the baby from the clone saga was taken by nurse to Norman Osborn they just need to find her again
I think the best way to reintroduce the child would be to have a story in which Peter discovers her while investiging what Osborn was doing when he was presumed dead after he killed gwen (I think the comics said he was in Europe)

I dunno. I haven't read the Mackie run yet so I don't know how feasibly long it has been for the baby to be gone during the time between Revelations and the JMS run. Seems to me like months or a year or two. Something about that rubs me the wrong way. We saw MJ and Peter's marriage, honeymoon, and skipping out on a happy birth is kinda too cruel. But what I am about to say may be too complicated of a retcon but I'll indulge anyway.
I guess if OMD is undone, Spencer tying GG to Mephisto could also undo the whole kidnapping plotline and Mongraine being successful. But then somehow I guess MJ would have to be retroactively taking care of Mayday while they are split up and then reconcile and that's too glaring of a retcon that could alter many events.
I guess yeah, opening up the Mongraine can of worms is the only way. After OMD is undone whether as a giant sized issue, an arc, or it being mystery that is addressed later, Peter's opening arc unrelated to it should be tracking down Norman and Mayday.
Or maybe the package could be retconned to something else, I dunno.

I am not sure that is what JMS is doing with those 2 pages. To me it reads as JMS critiquing Spider-Man's tendency to jump the gun with punishing or attacking criminals or assuming that these guys gathering here are wrongdoers. I forget what Ezekiel is doing here but going from the page alone, I think his main point is for Spidey to not blindly make fun of crooks and antagonize them like he kinda did most of the time back then from the 60's to 70's. 80's is when for instance in KLH he visits Joe Face's funeral and there is more humanity to the crooks.
Ezekiel saying he has a long way to become a mythical hero isn't really a knock moreso a point outlining how human Peter is.
Spidey making some effort to wind down some of his villains into not fighting or prevent escape or prevent crooks from even committing a crime is something I'd like to see. Doesn't always have to be constant fighting. Even so Spidey's webs used non-violently, in a capture sense, would still work out pretty well.

The time between the first two clone sagas in the 70s and 90s was 20 years but was explained was 5 years in the comics so the baby would probably around 2 or 3 years old a decade later. While I agree that it can be cruel to have Peter and MJ's baby be stolen it's a comic book story so dramatic plot twist are common. I'm not sure about undoing the kidnapping plot line because that would undo the JMS run. I think the best way to undo OMD would be to change things so that Spider-Man never joins the Avengers which would result in him not getting involved in civil war. I think ASM #500 would be a good departure point since it's after Peter and MJ got back together but before sins past.
I also think it would be cool to explore Norman's criminal connections since there are several references to him being part of some type of secret society
