Publishing and distributing comics
How the FUCK does it work, and how the FUCK do I break into the business? I’m working on something I’m confident has real potential under an independent label. Even if it doesn’t hit “mainstream” success when published independently, I believe it can still be plenty successful enough. I’d really appreciate it if any lurkers familiar with the business could suggest literature or course types that might enrich my understanding of the publishing/distribution landscape.

Bumping as I second this interest. Wish I could tell you anon but I am in a similar situation. My best guess is if you want success, you have to build up your own platform by sucking up to the normals. Just draw, write, post, whatever is already popular at the time which is closest to what you want to create, then the roaches will cluster around your creation. Not all of them, or even most of them, maybe 10%, but that's enough sometimes it seems like. Anything as a springboard to jump off. What is publishing, but a giant holding a billboard with your thing on it?

You used to go through Diamond but nowadays you make a YouTube channel complaining about the industry and sell your book for $50-100 on Kickstarter, claiming it'll send a message to DC and Marvel.
