What's everybody reading this week?
I just got a Marvel Unlimited account, started reading Claremont/Cockrum X-men and Miller Daredevil. Also planning on Grunewald's Cap run and Peter David's Hulk run. Does anyone have any other suggestions on other Marvel runs? And what it everyone else reading this week?

This week I've mostly been reading late 80s Avengers. Both East and West teams go through massive falling apart stories. Which is awful since it feels like half the characters I liked have been ruined horribly or have something awful in their near future and I don't feel like continuing, but need to.

However, after fucking around with it for a few days, the app is utter shit, so I might not keep it after the free trail. The only reason I signed up is because they have a 7 day free trial plus 4 months at 4 dollars a month, which is a decent deal, or would be if the app wasn't so ass.

>reading
I started a rather convoluted reading plan. It started out with me wanting to read Spider-Man from Amazing Fantasy #15 to Maximum Carnage and X-Men from the beginning to Age of Apocalypse. But, when I get to a crossover, I go read that book from the beginning until I catch up to where the other book is. I read 3 issues a day, each a different book.
Right now, Spider-Man is on hold and I'm reading X-Men, Avengers, and Tales to Astonish (Hulk and Namor). Not all of it is new. A year or two ago I already read every Marvel Masterwork volume for ASM as well as Claremont's X-Men up to the end of Dark Phoenix, all of Miller's Daredevil, and all of Simonson's Thor. But most of it is new to me.
My favorite currently running books are Ultimate Spider-Man, Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu, Immortal Thor, and Fantastic Four.

Wrong. I remain unrefuted, because I was mostly ignored or dismissed (aside from insults). You're lumping me in with another anon people jumped on in one of my threads, the one who said "verbose" and everyone began beating up on, like they were waiting for that "in". The best case someone made to me was something along the lines of "you had to be there, this was magic as it unraveled".
And as far as I observed, all of the bad faith arguments were made by fans of this run. I don't remember anything about preferring classic literature, but that wasn't not me.
>The worst part is that he's probably talking about 20th Century novels.
I don't get it. What's wrong with liking 20th-century novels?

The main issue with Fraction’s interpretation of Clint is that he’s made to be a fuckup loser. For no reason beyond boring comedy bits that aren’t even that funny.

I find early Avengers rather similar to early X-Men.
The initial issues are Lee/Kirby kind of slumming it in comparison to their greatest work, but still turning out something fun and laying all the groundwork for the title. Then Kirby leaves the book, and eventually a little while after Stan also leaves and hands the scripting over to Roy Thomas who presides over a long period of mediocrity.

Thomas's Avengers is certainly better than Thomas's X-Men with far stronger highs, but I still think it's fairly mediocre overall. Cap's Kooky Quartet is fun at first, the run of first appearances for Ultron, Vision, Yellowjacket is probably the high water mark, and then the Kree-Skrull War is good too. Everything else in between those high points seems to glaze over in my memory. In both cases, Roy only ever seems to put out good stories when he has a really great artist there (i.e., either John Buscema or Neal Adams, arguably BWS too once he starts coming into his own), which is pretty telling.

A Black Canary & Zatanna GN from 2015 written by Dini. The art wasn't as cheesecake as I was expecting but the story was a lot of fun.

That was a dark time for the Avengers, but Byrne was involved with a lot of it, at a time when his name brought in a huge amount of new readers to anything he worked on, so it ended up being very influential to later runs. Some of the things ruined back then never got fixed.

It had a lot of energy to it when Simonson was drawing it, and some good early stories with Apocalypse and Hodge, but you really have to be a fan of the O5 team to enjoy it, and not a lot of people seem to care for any of them but Cyclops these days.

I feel like you're doing a disservice to Roy's Avengers, once he finds his feet on the book and especially once Buscema is on board as artist, it's a consistently solid book for the most part.
