Pandering to children and adult children, decent enough aesthetic, retail store horror and existencial dread, LoOk AT PrEtTy ColOrS!, 4 different flavors of girls for the coomers to chose, tumblr Sexyman for the girls and silly guy Zoiberg-like that sometimes acts like the father of the group.

There are some rules that are stablished on a setting.
Some are very explicit, others so implicit that not even the author thinks about them when making the piece of media.

But let's remember, there are manny people here who are autists so they catch these details better than other people.

Rules can be bended, cheated and loopholed, but you must aknowledge their existence.
So when the author forgets about a certain rule, or a new author doesn't take it into account, then the autistic rage occurs.

"lore" is mostly a buzzword
Back in the old days it was subtext and subtle imagery, a lot of ye olde Hypercrisis theorycrafting was formed out of such. Then people saw the hype you could get by doing that but instead of actually contributing to anything they just made red herrings and non-sequiters that are great for generating schizo theories but have no impact on the story.
"Lore" doesn't really matter in TADC though, aside from the facts that 1) Caine knows more about the real world than he lets on, 2) Kinger may be a/the dev, 3) someone seems to be keeping the servers up and running (and that's what led accountant jester to it)

The concept is really creative and interesting. The horror of being trapped in a children's video game where your god is an AI who tries to entertain you but is also very insecure. The constant tension of trying to hold onto your humanity when so many of the things that made you human have been stripped away. If the stress gets too much for you, you lose all humanity and suffer a fate worse than death. So you have to make the best with what you've got and make relationships where you can and enjoy the nonsense for what it is. Or find other coping mechanisms.

It's got horror and constant tension. It's got funny moments and a great aesthetic. The music is amazing. It knows how to balance different moods so you don't sit in scary, sad, or funny for too long.

Well, I agree that it may have some stuff thrown in just because the author felt it would make it more marketeable and successful, but I think at the end of the day it's best to just do your thing and hope for the best, taking care to bring in a nice project, with genuine effort involved in it.

If it's good than it has a good chance to be successful, although there are a lot of variables in play... hell, even timing is important, sometimes it's just a bad time to release an animation on a particular style.

For example, Ongezellig. I feel like it should've been a much more successful indie cartoon, but unfortunately it didn't end up being, although no one is sure why exactly.

That's not really fair. Gaslight District has one single episode, I would have said the same thing about both Digital Circus and Murder Drones after the first episodes of their given shows.

Without the colors I can't tell if this is the evil or normal versions. Just because Pomni being dominant with sharp teeth and jax being submissive doesn't automatically establish which ones they are.
