You might be making a joke, but just to be safe, the statement does kind of make sense considering his nature. It's not that he doesn't understand the definition of the word or how to use it exactly, but rather, than the concept of something being "wrong" is beyond him. In his nature, there is no real "wrong" or "right". It's just instinct. A bit like how an cricket would view human morality. As in, it wouldn't. It's just not a factor.

Remember that he was talking to a trio of children.

Children aren't capable of much evil, but they can still be tempted to do what evil is within their ability. Li'l Satan here was doing what he could to corrupt them, given what he had to work with.

Playing a game where you can casually create and destroy little clay people is a child-friendly version of Satan tempting men into treating others as disposable objects. Lying and feigning innocence because "I don't know what wrong is" is another trap suitable for children.

One word, Ma'am," he said, coming back from the fire; limping, because of the pain. "One word. All you've been saying is quite right, I shouldn't wonder. I'm a chap who always liked to know the worst and then put the best face I can on it. So I won't deny any of what you said. But there's one more thing to be said, even so. Suppose we have only dreamed, or made up, all those things-trees and grass and sun and moon and stars and Aslan himself. Suppose we have. Then all I can say is that, in that case, the made-up things seem a good deal more important than the real ones. Suppose this black pit of a kingdom of yours is the only world. Well, it strikes me as a pretty poor one. And that's a funny thing, when you come to think of it. We're just babies making up a game, if you're right. But four babies playing a game can make a play-world which licks your real world hollow. That's why I'm going to stand by the play world. I'm on Aslan's side even if there isn't any Aslan to lead it. I'm going to live as like a Narnian as I can even if there isn't any Narnia. So, thanking you kindly for our supper, if these two gentlemen and the young lady are ready, we're leaving your court at once and setting out in the dark to spend our lives looking for Overland. Not that our lives will be very long, I should think; but that's a small loss if the world's as dull a place as you say.

“I know this: if life is an illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and am content.”

Anonymous No.150005351 [Report]
hen Seppi asked him what his own name was, and he said, tranquilly, “Satan,” and held out a chip and caught a little woman on it who was falling from the scaffolding and put her back where she belonged, and said, “She is an idiot to step backward like that and not notice what she is about.”

It caught us suddenly, that name did, and our work dropped out of our hands and broke to pieces—a cannon, a halberdier, and a horse. Satan laughed, and asked what was the matter. I said, “Nothing, only it seemed a strange name for an angel.” He asked why.

“Because it's—it's—well, it's his name, you know.”

“Yes—he is my uncle.”

He said it placidly, but it took our breath for a moment and made our hearts beat. He did not seem to notice that, but mended our halberdiers and things with a touch, handing them to us finished, and said, “Don't you remember?—he was an angel himself, once.”

“Yes—it's true,” said Seppi; “I didn't think of that.”

“Before the Fall he was blameless.”

“Yes,” said Nikolaus, “he was without sin.”

“It is a good family—ours,” said Satan; “there is not a better. He is the only member of it that has ever sinned.”

We others are still ignorant of sin; we are not able to commit it; we are without blemish, and shall abide in that estate always. We—” Two of the little workmen were quarreling, and in buzzing little bumblebee voices they were cursing and swearing at each other; now came blows and blood; then they locked themselves together in a life-and-death struggle. Satan reached out his hand and crushed the life out of them with his fingers, threw them away, wiped the red from his fingers on his handkerchief, and went on talking where he had left off: “We cannot do wrong; neither have we any disposition to do it, for we do not know what it is.”

One of the cooler things about his design is that he doesn't have a body. The suit of armor and mask he inhabits are empty but also connected to the earth in that pocket dimension he exists in. The implication is that he is less of a tangible thing and more like a force that pervades all of that dimension. His mask changes expression by him molding it to change. He creates and destroys but he is only creating from nothing and returning it to nothing.

All we know for certain about Satan is that he is a powerfull opposing force who exists to try and rival God's will. He has acess to the realm of heaven in his challenge to God with the book of Job and has came to blows with the angel Gabriel directly when he is not on earth tempting man through th sin. He's far more abstract and terrifying than the fallen trajedy archetype romanticist writers characterize him as.

The thing is, Satan never questioned God's power, never once thought of being above; his questioning comes down to us, a failed product that is beneath angels under his perspective and not worthy of being under God's grace.
Call it what you want, but Satan knows how low humanity can get. And he isn't happy about it either; it disgusts him. Satan doesn't seek to end humanity just to piss god, he seeks to eliminate it because we are not worth God's trouble and care.

He literally tried to place himself above Christ with his journey through the desert and caused the creation of sin through the Garden of Eden. He opposes God and uses mankind as a weapon against him because he knows God loves man more than anything else he has ever created.

The problem with naming conventions is that historically these were rival deities to the hebrew religion which were made into what we know as demons and for convience they are treated as the same opposing force as, even if they are individual entities, it does not change their malicious agency towards God and his charge.
>He has no direct contradiction to God
And yet he challenged him in the book of Job directly and fought Gabriel along with trying to subjugate Jesus, the Son of God and part of the Trinity that makes up the Godhead.

The "satan" of job and the satan of the NT are different characters. Satan becoming "the opposing force" and the ultimate enemy was a fuck huge retcon. Light and dark came from God in the OT. He didn't have an opponent. He was everything.
Anonymous No.150009000 [Report] >>150009058

You do know God creating light and dark and having an opponent can be both true? In order "good" to exist you need to define it, and part of those parameters is defining what good is not. This means that you need to concieve of opposite concepts such as what is "evil". So God created what is good, but as a result cast the shadow of what is evil in return. If there are figures unified in this agency of evil or maliciousness they are part of that universal force in turn. A "Satan".

True, but it makes the most sense from a neo-platonist framework. I can't think of other systems which can reconcile a mystery as important as the Trinity, but by treating their relationship as metaphysical concept in of itself to form the Godhead it does make sense how 3 beings are distinct but are still one entity.
