Mayday's series, and the character, is one of my favourites. I genuinely love it for so many reasons, not the least of which being an optimistic look at legacy and the future, whilst having a brilliant understanding of scope (Mayday may have been the 'main character', but she wasn't the centre of the universe, or the most important hero, she had her place in a wider world and didn't just become more important because she was the MC).
Her story had an ending. Defalco did the whole thing from start to open-end (excluding #51). Trotting her out and exposing her to bullshit (get fucked Slott, you jealous gelatenous turd), and Spiderverse faggotry does her no good. She's a relatively grounded street level character who is defined by her relationships and setting. Detaching her from that would make her bland and faceless.
Miles was made worse by removing him from the Ultimate Universe, he was the next generation picking up the mantle in a broken world because there was nobody left to do so. A tiny fish in an empty pond because all the big fish had already been eaten. Take him from that and he's just... A nice guy who wants to be Spider-Man just because. Half his supporting cast and villains are reskins, missing, or hand-me-downs. Spider-Gwen is the same problem times a thousand. She was reduced to nothing more than a name and costume, and now she doesn't even have those.
Nobody who likes Mayday should want her paraded around with all the things that mattered gutted from her. If Defalco wanted to make a cute follow-up miniseries about how she's grown, that'd be fun. Anything else? Let her rest. Appreciate that we had a good thing, and let it go.
