The idea of Superman's S being a symbol of his house was completely invented in the 70's, after Marlon Brando insisted he wear it in the motion picture. It was never a thing in all the decades before that.

Notably, neither of Superman's parents wear it, so we can assume it's reverted to the Silver Age.

Yeah I don't know why everyone just said "sure ok" when some linguists got their hands on an alien language that has no apparent earthly precedent of ever being heard, much less spoken a single time on the planet, or comparable alien equivalent that they even have access to anyway.
