Watching the original series, Finn is... a great protagonist. But as a specific type of character, they can't do much, and the few times they step out of bounds, for example, when LSP “abuses” them, it reminds us that Finn is a cartoon character, and given the audience's reaction and the fact that it's a children's show, they only don't go there because he's “12 years old.” And he's not even written as such, since a 12-year-old would have knowledge of sex and would have a more complex morality. Especially with the influence of Jake and his adoptive family. Anyway, about him being cucked in a relationship, it doesn't work that way. His thing with the fire princess was lame and makes the episodes easy skip, unlike the other relationships in the series. As I said, Finn is written as a “child.”

Marceline was the main reason why Finn couldn’t land PB. From the very beginning of the show you can see that she was trying to sabotage any hope of those two getting together. Remember that one time she made Finn place wolves in PB’s room and made him take the whole blame for it. This take annoys me because this very episode shows how that's not true. Both of them fell into their old, bad habits. Marceline ran off, couldn't just be open with PB and herself. Yeah but it's ignoring the main criticism of PB as a character, that being that she's an evil tyrant. Like ideally you'd use her relationship with Marcy to demonstrate grow where she becomes more of a benevolent ruler rather than just completely ignoring the problem. It could also demonstrate Marceline's growth as she decides to take more responsibilities to demonstrate that she's taking the relationship seriously as well as the implication of what dating a princess/being a queen in her own right means.
I've never been fond of PB x Marcy in the show, because as a ship, it constantly tries to ignore or sweep those issues under the rug. The comics didn't have this problem, because they didn't flanderize PB into being a full-on authoritarian. In the comics, she's just a goofy scientist big sister whose inventions occasionally get the cast into trouble. Giving that version an clean happy ending is free unlike in the show which needs more effort to work and justify.
This ending doesn't feel earned and more feels like PB is just an absentee ruler whose off in the country dicking around with her girlfriend rather than improving as a ruler/person.
