Because most of them wouldn’t even have been cartoons before The Simpsons and Family Guy. Most of them don’t NEED to be cartoons because they never make use of things the medium can do that live action can’t. But because of those shows’ success, “adult animation” became a thing and now rather than make shitty live action sitcoms they make shitty sitcom cartoons.

The reason why this style is so common is cause it’s both cheap AND unappealing to kids

Adult Swim is based cause they know how to make their styles unappealing to kids while also looking good, they don’t make their shows follow this generic ass formula unlike any other Adult Animation network, SuperJail, King Star King, Smiling Friends, all are very unique in their own rights and pleasing to look at.

Also people shitting on Fixed need to realize how much of a step in the right direction the film is, it’s an actual 2D animated cartoonist-driven adult animated film, cartoonist-driven adult animation is practically non-existent these days cause most adult animation is created by comedians who don’t know jack shit about the medium, and the film also looks fucking good, even if the films humor is not for you the film certainly has more artistic merit than something like Big Mouth.

The good quality writers and animators would rather do something with broader appeal, and executives don't look past the kiddie stigma of animation unless it looks like something already proven like FG or Simpsons.
