Why haven’t studios tried making Smiling Friends clones yet?
Why are adult animation studios still trying to rip off Family Guy and Rick & Morty? Smiling Friends is the hip new adult cartoon popular among normies and people online, people love Newgrounds humor and many Newgrounds artists would kill to make it into the industry. No normies I know watch Family Guy clones and Rick & Morty’s hayday was almost 10 years ago at this point.

Are studios really that out of touch?

because in reality its just simply not a good show and most producers can see that. They also know the only reason it has such a large following on social media is because of the newgrounds cult that so desperately wants to push their legacy creators in to the mainstream as some kind of recognition of legitimacy.

People who make Family Guy clones don't have a soul, personality, or genuine interest in animation, so that might be a little tough.

Because Zach's style of writing and humor is neurotic newgrounds irony shit with 2 decades worth of cringe compilations off of youtube. No studio is going to have that level of brain damage to match his syle or thought processes

They can't rip it off because Smiling Friends is actually funny

Because Smiling Friends is already an OneyPlays clone.

The same reasons why there aren't Teen Titans Go clones

Because it's peak and can't be replicated and also because it's in the DC omniverse which gives it +100 aura?

A series about averting cynicism is a bit hard to cynically copy

We already have indie animated shows like Bridge Kids and Melvin’s Macabre that have Smiling Friends/Newgrounds-like humor, it seems that SF clones are exclusive to indie animation only

Smiling Friends is a part of the DC universe? Interesting

Smiling Friends is still a relatively young series, so it'll take some time for studios to catch on to its growing popularity. It's also pretty niche since it seems to appeal to a younger demographic than most mature animated hits (or at least a demo more savvy of internet insidejokes), so replicating that style of humor is gonna be tricky.

Either way, Adult Swim was smart to let Zach & Michael move forward with Seasons 3-5 in advance. I was so sure we'd have to wait another two years for the next season

Executives have shit taste, they think Family Guy clones are the golden standard for comedy and that Smiling Friends is slop.

Smiling Friends humor just feels like a throwback to the golden age of Adult Swim, if Xavier Renegade Angel came out today people would see it as zoomer humor slop

Studios unlike the audience or creators have access to the numbers
