The Bad Guys 2
I thought it was better than the first one. It didn't receive a ton of marketing as has been sluggish at the box office, but so was the first movie and ultimately it made a profit for Dreamworks and Universal, so I'm optimistic. The Blu-Ray and UHD disc + digital purchase release date has been bumped up from February 2026 to October 2025 so we won't have to wait as long, and the disc release is supposed to have more deleted scene animatics with commentaries, plus a new short "Lies and Alibis" (which, if it follows the precedent from the previous movie, will be done by the movie team and thankfully not the Dreamworks TV people).

I didn't watch either movie but I like lurking these threads. The insecure schizo is the funniest poster.

Finally watched it last night. Good film. Better than the first, both in its animation and story, but could have done without the fart jokes. I hope there is a sequel and that it also includes Kitty.

It didn't even make double its budget and you must always remember international theaters always get a BIGGER cut of the money made. So Bad Guys 2 is a failure. Doesn't even have the good word of mouth that Puss Last Wish had. And Death is a more popular wolf character than Mister Wolf from Bad Guys despite he not truly being a wolf.

Face it Bad Guys is a failure and before you say anything bunch of book sequels are meaningless. Success in books is not the same as success in movie adaptations. Bad Guys is trite.

Dreamworks has been rather sloppy for some time now. And I don't look forward to more Kung Fu Panda sequels given how awful the fourth movie was.

According to the wiki the budget is eighty million. It would need to make one hundred and sixty million and them some to have a successful box office.

It's weird how TDG2 isn't popping like I thought it would, is it because of Wolf/Diane being an official couple?

Forgot to mention Tarzan is the ideal example. Look at how many Tarzan books there are and yet no one gives a fuck about any of them because none of them got adapted to cinema. To most people Tarzan is simply some guy who was raised by apes and is a survivalist in the jungle. Whatever happens in the books is irrelevant to movie goers whose only knowledge of Tarzan is cinema.

And that's what's happening to Bad Guys. No one cares about the book series. And on that note no one cares about the How To Train Your Dragon book series either.

The characters are simply not very remarkable. They aren't interesting enough to do anything with them. Dare I say it, these characters are less fleshed out than the ones from Sly Cooper which is the same concept a gang of animal anthros performing criminal acts. Though it does help Sly Cooper that the gang is small.

You got Sly the field man, Murray the muscle, Bentley the brains.

The Bad Guys has too many characters...

Wolf the filler thirst trap for homos and stupid women
Snake the extra guy
Fat shark
Fart fish
Webs the only one with mighty skills of handling technology
And Diane the Mary Sue who can generally do everything

Too many extra characters.

I couldn't help but laugh at the breakdown of the characters and how boring they are, Webs is the only interesting one with actual skill but the hate is just from the VA

It didn't escape me so much as Webs is the only default member of the gang who truly has powerful skills. She's the Donatello (Ninja Turtles) for the Bad Guys. Without her understanding of technology the gang would have been arrested a long time ago.

My perspective on the issue is that while the film is fun and has good energy, there's nothing really to the characters. I'm not sure anyone really even goes through a character arc in this film compared to the last one (which wasn't much of an arc but it was there). From the WIPs and production sketches and animatics floating around, it seems they initially wanted the movie to be like 10% more serious. Like give the people a tiny bit to think about, but they didn't do that in the end. It's a kid's movie through and through, which is fine, I'm sure their target audience loved it. But I assume kid movies are more hit and miss, whereas family movies are safer bets. Toy Story is a family movie, as an example. Sure the premise is ludicrous and fantastical, but the emotions Woody and Buzz endure through the film are real. The envy and shame Woody feels, the utter self-doubt Buzz eventually feels, they're genuine emotions and it makes sense that these characters are experiencing them given the context. There's just more for adults to appreciate.

I love The Bad Guys 2, its animation is fantastic and most of the jokes are funny. But outside the comedy the writing is just too flat.

For me to start watching these movies again they would need to get rid of the entire character of Diane. She is perfect. She does nothing wrong. She saves the day in both movies. I am so sick and tired of her being on screen.

Well, it's because people start to experience burnout on furry characters in general after the abundance of them in the late 2010s and early 2020s. Nowadays, people seem to be more into anthropomorphic objects instead. See the success of Vox, Tenna, Dandy's World and Battle for Dream Island.
