Po has a distiguishable arc that builds off his arc from the first film. Po's origin is given wonderful context in relation to his new character development. Po is an excellent mirror to Shen in regards to each character's inner conflict and how each deals with their destiny's. Po let's go of his past to embrace his future while Shen holds on to his denying him a future. Mr. Ping of all characters is given excellent character depth. It's a solid film which you can't even properly criticize

Once the village had been fully put to the torch, Shen returned home filled with pride, expecting praise from his parents. However, his parents were horrified at their son's actions and exiled him and his wolf followers from the city forever instead, with their throne eventually being turned over to the stewardship of Master Thundering Rhino and the Kung Fu Council after their deaths

Shen is a great character. He is an excellent subversion of Po. Where Shen is obsessed with his destiny and doesn't want it fulfilled and inadvertently makes it come to fruition. The soothesayer is a surprisingly tragic character who in inadvertently caused a genocide. And the canons are an excellent metaphor for progress vs tradition. How are you so fucking thick? The first movie is pretty straight forward and Tai Lung's backstory is a trope in and of itself but like Shen he's developed well enough to make it work.
