Why does the 1990 TMNT film succeed where so many other comic book adaptations fail?

People really liked the TMNT.
There were fewer opportunities for entertainment in the 90s.

Do you only have one image saved on your computer, or do you just insist on posting that shit every single time you see the letters "TMNT"?

A popular IP
A strong script that was faithful to what it was adapting
Characters portrayed accurately with actors that had good chemistry with each other
Produced by genuine fans of the franchise who just wanted to entertain, not deconstruct anything or push some kind of agenda

All things modern Hollywood struggles with.

its well written and takes the characters seriously its not that hard. There are some that take the characters seriously but are not well written and vice versa. Entire section on the farm is April performing a character analysis on the dynamics and it doesnt use that time for exposition whereas in a modern movie like Age of Ultron theres a farm break sequence but its hallf exposition andd very little character work is done.

You are correct that the anti nazi and anti hitler premise is an agenda but its an agenda the entire American education system pushes and for most U.S citizens it is instilled in their framework of paradigms and thought. You know this you are not ignorant of it yet you pretend to be for the sake of 'everything is political' arguments that you start in bad faith as a hobby. You also know that there is a threshold of propaganda people are tolerant of until it becomes an issue with their ability to connect to the entertainment being presented, again you know this and pretend to not know and when someone cant articulate it the way I am now you act ignorant and shocked, its so disingenuous and everyone is sick of your shit.

It was made at peak tmnt popularity, and Jim Henson was involved, the movie actually used the mirage comics as inspiration while the sequel used the 80's cartoon as an inspiration, it was a no Brainer.

Leo and Raph's dynamic is the heart of the film and everybody working on the film knows it. The two of them and their relationship is what makes the movie work.

IDW is putting out way too many TMNT comics. I don't know how these sales work because obviously your average fan isn't picking these all up. They're even putting out 3 issues of Battle Nexus in the same month, and the last two in December.

nobody cares if the comics sell poorly or not, the primary material for TMNT has been cartoons and movies for a long time. basically it's movies=cartoons=toys>games>comics

The entire worldview of the burgersphere was moulded by the foundational myth of Titanomachy of WWI where the old order fell and the Silver people lived, and the Gigantomachy of the WWII and overcoming le evil empire. Then you have Typhoon (Vietnam) and the Iron Age begins, when morality is slowly deteriorating, but there will be no next breakthrough.
Comic authors running in circles for DECADES represent that very well.

The costume itself is meh when viewed in broad daylight, but the camera work and lighting in the movie sold it well enough.

Because you have characterizations where their personality traits are not the entirety of the character. Mikey is a goofy guy, he's not 100% party 100% of the time. Leo is serious and focused, not 100% CO no fun allowed. You also have actual interactions with the real world, not pure CGI or half assed green screen. That's something a lot of executives in hollywood have forgotten, that real people interacting with real things is the only way to make film feel truly real. There's a place for CGI, especially for things that are too dangerous or just completely impractical to do. It doesn't hurt that the actors genuinely seemed to be having fun in the roles.

They adapted the ONLY good story arcs for Ninja Turtles. Ninja Turtles even under its creators starts falling apart with random and sloppy ideas. And when you think about it the best elements and staples of the franchise were created by different reimaginings in the cartoons.

And the sad thing is that later theatrical films for TMNT do NOT adapt the successful material of the franchise. And I cannot believe executives are convinced that Seth Rogen TMNT is a success. TMNT is such a damaged brand that the only compliment it has is, it's not as broken as Star Wars.

>its an agenda the entire American education system pushes

The funny thing is it has lost its effectiveness. Nearly a hundred years later and young people don't really hate Nazis. Some of them are realizing Nazis were right to hate Jews given what Jews have done to the United States.

We are starting to enter a new era one where young people will say "We whites rescued the Jews and they poisoned white countries in return! Hitler was right KILL THE JEWS!"
