Do you think our society could ever relearn traditional animation, or is it lost forever?
Anonymous No.150039706 >>150041092 >>150047426
Ofc they can, but it's not profitable because it costs more, fuck this shitty, artificially capitalist plastic society

Why does it have to be relearned? The original tutorials still exist.

You should be happy that AI will bring down animation costs down making this medium viable again.

Cuphead did the whole traditional workflow
People still know how but money is the most important thing for companies.
They choose the cheapest ways possible which are 3d or 2d puppets

Did the Cuphead brothers do everything on paper? Nuts if so.

People below 23 should really fuck off. You understimulated faggots have xitter, reddit, bluesky and whatever the fuck. Why don't you just fucking stay there instead of metastasizing everywhere else

Cuphead drew and inked traditionally, but colored on computer bcause they tested both and no one could tell the difference and since most of their animation consisted of loops they could get away with it.

It wasn't forgotten, it's just not profitable. Stop covering for profit motive.

They weren't the only ones working, there were dozens of animators.
Anonymous No.150045664
It's not the cels, it's the fact that Hollywood animators got butthurt over 3D CGI and started turning their characters into formless, spatially impossible icons to say "Hey look, we still serve a niche", and then that became the rules for 2D

Trends come and trends go, but drawing is forever. Someone will make traditionally animated shit viable again.

I'm sure SEK is hiring. If anyone wants to work on the squirrel and hedgehog reboot.

I don't get how the cartoon-watching community is so big on /co/. Modern cartoons are a huge downgrade from this stuff. At least mainstream comics still occasionally get good art.

Cartoons seem to function as an opiate for most people who watch them. They don't do it for the love of animation. They never wanted to leave the crib, and this beats thumb-sucking and shitting your diapers, though I suspect some of /co/ is into that.

The method will live on, only among the insane, tenacious, determined or obsessive. It's not a genre, it's a medium, a tool, to express something you cannot through conventional means or text alone.
Just needs practice, and study like any other art.
I just wish more were willing to learn. Disney only has 4 "Ink and Paint" pros on staff. Mostly to either fix archival stock, or make collectable merch for private collectors.
Of course, nothing happens without investment or spending. Art is never "free".

I have hope that someone will crack the code on making CG animation look like traditional cel animation. And I mean actually good looking, not the cel shaded bullshit they've done before. Some people have figured out how to do stop-motion in CG so maybe some day someone will make a workflow to do CG cel animation.

a standard hand-drawn film, adjusted for inflation, was typically much less expensive to make than your average 3D film, especially ones from larger studios like Pixar and Dreamworks. It has less to do with money and more to do with talent. Hand-drawn animation takes an immense amount of time and training to learn, and setting up all your elements convincingly to make a full "space" takes a lot of brainpower- geometry, lighting, etc. 3D animation is a lot easier to offload to cheap and less skilled laborers.
