I honestly hate the "Voltron art style" because it's Christine Bian's art direction on Voltron lifting from Ki Hyun Ryu's art direction from TLOK which itself is lifting from ATLA's art direction which was mostly Bryan Konietzko, Angela Mueller, and Oh-Seung Kyun.
ATLA's art direction was great because it lifted from anime in the right way. Simpler character designs fit for animation that had just enough detail to be pegged as clearly American.
The problem with TLOK/Voltron/Castlevania is that they went for MORE detailed designs in order to distinguish themselves as "adult" and for a teenage audience but didn't account for how these characters would look in motion or whether or not it would look appealing. You can't just slap on excess detail onto a character design because it makes it MORE EXPENSIVE TO ANIMATE and exhausting to draw. Ironically, that's why these shows end up actually resembling anime in how little actual animation they end up getting outside of big set pieces. But because of the composition, choreography, storyboarding, and mise en scene all being so very western, nobody can truthfully call it "anime" without lying to themselves or dumbing it down to purely style.
