I often see these comics say things like "set before X event in the game/movie/show!" but how many times is that needed or how many times is it actually good and adds well to the existing lore of the universe vs how many are just ash grabs and/or make things worse?

Unironically one of the best licensed comics ever. And the fact that they're officially considered canon and referenced in other in-universe material that has been released since (since Bob Gale wrote it) is also great. Shame that it never got a hardcover omnibus.

This was a tie-in comic that came with the Elder Scrolls: Redguard. Though it says it's at like issue 24 really it was the only one made. It's a shame Bethesda basically sits on Elder Scrolls tie-in media money, they would have made pretty good comics if they were given to a nice writer.

>Topps entered the comic book market as the number of publishers was increasing, with at least nine other companies joining the field from 1990 to 1992. This coincided with an increase in comic-book market-speculation that created inflated sales and an eventual collapse of the market. Topps Comics closed in 1998.

Licenseshit work period if they satisfy the following
>Is there an active fanbase for this IP let alone that would read comics?
>Does this licensed comic remind or even accentuates to the reader why they love the IP to begin with?
>Is there something in this comic that the reader can't get anywhere else from the IP?
>If canon to the source material, do the stories not feel like filler?
>Is there a sizable talent pool willing and eager to work on this IP as a licensed comic?
Otherwise they come across as well, filler
Glorified cheaply made accessories
Lower than direct to DVD movies
The problem with tie-in licenseshit especially is that it's near practically guaranteed to be filler because no self-respecting vidya developer or filmmaker would have a fucking comic be essential for a complete story and if the tie-in licenseshit is a retelling, it's just gonna be an inferior method of engaging with a story that's already there.
