>haven't talked to them in years
I still talk with my mom and stepdad regularly. They vote republican, but they're sane about. They just care about economics and don't give a shit about the black gay jews or whatever. I can play ball with that. Despite some differences in our worldviews, we still value being in each others' lives.
My bio-dad on the other hand burned every bridge in his life and basically lives in a schizo bunker now because daddy trump told him to. All of our lives have improved in his absence. My sister's baby calls our stepdad poppop. Our bio-dad ruined any chance of ever being called that himself.
We didn't become left wing "out of spite" we became left wing because any time we tried to question any of our dad's teachings he'd lose his shit and break things for not respecting his authority 100% instead of giving us a real answer. And after we left home we realized that the way he saw the world didn't apply to the people he was so vehemently telling us to hate. It was simple logic. One person was constantly losing his shit over pointless garbage, everyone else wasn't. To willingly stick with the former isn't some show of conviction or strength, it's retardation.
We aren't the spiteful ones here. He is.
